Worst Indian restaurant food we ever ate.
We ordered chicken vindaloo and masala machi (fish)
Both gravies (sauce) are exactly the same and tasted bad and salty. When we asked the waiter, he took the curry inside and came back saying it’s not salty at all as if we are not Indians and we never ate Indian curry before. We have been to many Indian restaurants before. Would never go back again and would not recommend to anyone. No quality and no ambience.
Attended Ajads for a mate’s birthday dinner, best Indian meal I’ve had in a while, customer service was excellent, definitely recommend this place. I had the butter chicken (hot) which was full of flavor and spice. The free corkage is an added bonus.
I ordered a lamb rogan josh and a beef vindaloo. Both were absolutely terrible. Exact same sauce in the way it looked and texture. The only difference was one was slightly hotter than the other. In a nutshell, both meals looked and tasted like a gravy. Indian food should not be like this. Indian food should be full of colour, texture and great tasting. I will never order food from there again. They should be ashamed of themselves
Average at best.
On the best days its slightly above a food court curry, on its worst days it’s plain bad. It’s better than Raviz down the road who seem to nuke half their dishes, but neither can touch Bombay Blues for taste, consistency and hygiene.
Take the extra 5 minutes to drive to Panmure and check out Indian Pepper or Sri Puteris, or Bombay Blues in Glenn Innes.
Seriously average, I find the reviews so suspect, as even on their best days their curries are worse than my dad’s ringburners.
If anyone want the Real taste of Indian food this is the place I recommend , these ppl are awesome in customer service and quality food . Well done boys ,keep it up . I ring them up on my way home form work, got there in 10 min and my meal was ready .
Have ordered takeaway and dined at Ajadz on several occasions and the food and service has been consistently good and we have never had an issue. Complimentary popodoms are always appreciated and the food tastes great!
P.s. I like the review below where the guy gives Ajadz a negative review after being disgruntled from Raviz, sounds like that habitual complainer needs to get a life! Haha
We ordered mango chicken and chicken tikka masala to takeaway and the meals were delicious. No complaints.
I had takeout Karai lamb and it really was one of the most delicious curries I have eaten in a long time. (I do know my curries btw) I cannot fault it at all. I normally can’t eat a whole dish usually saving half for the following day but seriously this was so utterly divine I scoffed the lot! I’ve had a few meals from Ajadz in Ellerslie before and found them just OK – certainly nothing to rave about. But this time it was outstanding and I will definitely be ordering again! yay! : )
I am a regular curry eater at least once a week or every fortnight. I have eaten many curries so I know what the real deal is. I usually get my curries from Raviz but last time I went there the staff was rude and the food was real bland. It’s as if they gave me bad batch on purpose. I tried butter chicken here for the first time after reading reviews. to all the people that say that this is the best curry they have had i hate to say it but i don’t think u folks know what curry is.
Back to business
The rice was real average must be low quality rice but just wasn’t to appealing
curry was ok nothing to go over the moon about you could probably say it was just a wee bit better then mall curry.
Raviz curry is alright i usually go there weekly because its close and convenient but service has put me off.
Ajadz is pretty much always empty and I know why, the food is average
I live in the north shore and just few days back I had visited this Indian Restaurant Ajadz, this place was recommended by one of my Friend , hence I decided to go there. To my surprise, I was welcomed by a warm hearted staff , and the most appreciating thing is the personal touch which makes you feel at home.Ajadz serves variety of Indian specialities, which were really delicious, the best one was the butter chicken, there are also different specialities and great deals . I have decided to go there again with my friends, and recommend it to all of them around me as well.
I found a MAGGOT in the rice!
I was horrified when I got a takeaway from this place to find, quarter of the way through eating it, that there was a maggot in the rice. I threw the meal away, and took the rice back, with the offending maggot, looking for a full refund.
They were reluctant to refund me, and tried to offer me more rice and some papadums! I insisted and eventually got a full refund.
Aside from the maggot incident I found the whole experience of being an Ajadz customer extremely underwhelming.
- On taking my order they were slow, disinterested and vague about when it would be ready.
- On collecting the order I had to wait longer than I was told over the phone, I was not greeted when I came up to the counter (the staff member was busy on the phone). There was no apology for being late with my order.
I will certainly NOT be going back to Ajadz again, not just as a result of the obvious poor hygiene standards of the restaurant, but also as a result of the whole experience and the manner in which the staff dealt with me both before and after the maggot was returned to them.
Was visiting from Christchurch last year after Earthquake and relatives took us here, the Butter chicken is the best I have eaten and we have tried many in Christchurch.
Ordered 8 meals for office lunch – ready and hot on time. Packed and ready to go with complimentary poppadoms. The Prawn Malabari was simply divine! The sweet naan is the best I have eaten. Thank you for a great service.
Dinner | 22 June 2011 | For a reasonably priced mid-week Indian meal this is a good little restaurant.
Our meals were tasty, the service very good and the prices great. The wait staff were friendly.
We will return to Ajadz and recommend it as an okay place to eat.
Our favourite Indian restaurant and takeaway which is great because we are in Ellerslie and it is so close to home (and funnily enough we haven’t enjoyed Adjadz chains in other areas and the people at Raviz were so rude to us we won’t go back there). The Manager is always very polite and friendly and remembers us which is nice. The food is always delicious – we usually order Korma, Butter Chicken or Butter Prawns but have also sampled other dishes with friends and they have been delicious. My brother ordered the Vindaloo “Indian Hot” as he love spicey and hot and was pleased with his dish (I couldn’t stand a taste on my finger!). Naan is excellent – we like the plain but also order garlic naan which we love as it has garlic cut up all over it. Waiters are happy to provide iced water which is great. The restaurant is lacking in imagination and atmosphere and you do have people walking past you for takeaways if you sit too close to the big counter, but the food makes up for this. We choose to takeaway mainly. They also give out free poppadoms. We are going there tonight!
Tonight i ordered a takeaway of 2 mild butter chickens, for the wife and kids, and a medium lamb korma for myself. …I’m a fan of nice spicy foods(as long as i have a tongue left at the end)i also ordered 2 garlic naans and 2 plain naans.total order amount $60.00.
The gentleman who assisted me was polite, but no smile. He said the food would be ready in 20 Min’s and it was done in less….so far so good.
At home, the garlic naans were terrible, looked like they had just spread some cut up garlic pieces over the naan, which all fell off when i picked it up to eat it.the butter chicken was really nice, nicely spiced, soft and tender. The lamb korma was terrible….the lamb pieces where chewy, tasted bland and wasn’t even close to being medium.the butter chicken was tastier and “hotter” than the lamb korma.
Not impressed at all, doubt we will be eating from there again, for $60 I was expecting much better.
Went there last night for dinner, and will definitely visit again!
It’s a pretty down-to-earth low key place, very non-pretencious with the decor (or lack of decor!).. But the food was very very tasty and reasonably priced, decent portion sizes as well. Also, love love love the BYO wine with no corking fees!
Perfect little place for a quiet dinner
I haven’t been to Ajadz in ages but we were there again last night and the food is definitely superb! I would definitely rate it is serving the best Indian in Auckland!
Our friend who was dining with us said their butter chicken was better than any he had eaten in London and the decided it was the best he had ever eaten anywhere.
The staff were very lovely and the prices are great.
A fantastic dining experience
We always order from Ellerslie Butter Chicken with garlic naan and love it!Tried a different takeaway in Mt Eden one night and food was unexceptional. Keep going back and my son loves it.
This is not our closest Indian restaurant, but we always drive here to purchase as their curries have real flavour .
Their Butter Chicken and Vegetable Korma are our favourites, but we have always been happy when we purchase from here.
We always get takeaway, they do have a restaurant as well but don’t expect much atmosphere if you eat in – but I’m sure the food will still be great!
I love Ajadz! High quality, delicious Indian dishes. One of my favourite places to eat, although most of the time I order takeaway. It is beautiful food and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Indian cuisine.
Bad bad bad…
We had the Balti Chicken, Naans and baaji from Ajadz.
Too salty: I use a lot of salt in my cooking (my wife complains I use too much) BUT the Balti Chicken was far too salty even for me. Even ‘diluting’ the sauce mixed with rice was still too salty to eat.
Cheap rice: we received standard long-grain rice which was cooked with too much water and the added salt did not go well. We expect basmati rice from an indian restaurant.
Onion Bhaaji: not nice. They were dry and contained very little onion.
Would never return to this place personally.
Food was nice, service was terrible, waitress couldn’t answer simple questions, she never once smiled, and banged the dishes on to the table without giving them to the right person.
Very good food and reasonably priced. I love the butter chicken. I get lunch special regularly from here. A++++++
We order the Lunch menu regularly and are ALWAYS impressed with the quality of the food, especially at such a good price.
Todays’ lunch in particular was fantastic!
This place is much better than the other indian food place in ellerslie, good service and EXCELLENT food, im now a regular
Well if you want the best Indian food in Auckland and a pleasent experience with great service this this is the place to go. I have been a regular at Ajdaz for over six years and although I have been forced to try other Indian resturants I will always rate Ajdaz as the best. A simple resturant with the best food.
This is my favourite Indian takeaway place in this area. In fact, it’s probably my favourite Indian food in the whole of Auckland.
The flavours are absolutely stunning.
I would rate the dine-in atmosphere as only satisfactory though, as I find the wide-open space feels a little exposed to the other diners, and perhaps a bit unimaginative, and I don’t like the chairs. Still, if you want mind-blowing Indian food – these guys have got it. I would drive a long way, and past many other Indian restaurants to dine at Ajadz in Ellerslie.
