Visited The Beach Front Cafe yesterday. Views are lovely. Service okay, however, meals were disgusting. Our chicken satay worked out to be $6.00 a skewer, stone cold with nasty bottled (possibly Homebrand) satay sauce. A small clump of dry green salad leaves did not add to the experience. The chips were okay (how could you go wrong!) but the aoili came complete with the dried edge from the jar! Experience we would never repeat. Would definitely not return and would recommend that anyone who was considering a meal here to try elsewehere.

We have visited this cafe quite frequently over previous summers, and while the food has never been outstanding, it has generally been pretty good and we have often shared meals as the portions were so huge! Yesterdays visit suggested either ownership or the chef has changed … the food was terrible and the portions have shrunk substantially! My partners squid rings were cut so thinly it was hard to find them in the batter and they were tough and totally tasteless. I paid an extra $6 for chicken in my caesar and there were a handful of small cubes of over cooked dry chicken amongst the sloppy cos lettuce leaves and the rock hard croutons. I also noticed their paninis are $12! We will definitely be heading to the cafe down the beach next time we’re on Onetangi!

A wonderful location – friendly staff who went out of their way to accomadate my fussy order. Food was great but the desserts are to die for. My favourite is the chocolate cake.

Have been to this cafe before on previous visits and liked it a lot.
However, I went in a few weeks ago and found that their breakfast had gone up in price by $7.00 for what looked like less food on the plate than before. That’s a big price hike in anyone’s book. All the other items on the menu have gone up too. Funnily enough around labour weekend.
I won’t be going back.

Wonderful cafe. We came here during a storm and loved sitting by the warm fire and watching it out the window. Ambiance was fantastic, lovely food, fantastic service and we would defiantly come back.

food is great. the staff at front of house let this place down. dress is definitely an issue, friendly tho, not very experienced in dealing with overseas visitors, but then that is a typical new Zealand attitude in hospo..by the way, im a kiwi, and fully licenced general manager up to five star. all in all, a good atmosphere, good food, and a fantastic view.
