Overview

Buenos Aires Restaurant was originally opened in 2007 at Clarks Beach, and following very succesful response from locals and many people coming from all around Auckland, we decided to move onwards and upwards and relocated our restaurant to the heart of Auckland. We finally opened the new Buenos Aires Restaurant at 234 Jervois Rd, Herne Bay in August 2010, featuring the NZ-first open woodfire grill (worldwide known Argentinean-style “Parrilla”, as we call it – the secret to the flavour and tenderness of our meals). While this is a traditional grill in most restaurants in Argentina, this concept took New Zealand by surprise, as during our opening night two Fire Brigade Trucks came over to try to put out the fire! (Of course we invited the firefighters for dinner and had a big laugh about it). The concept of having the Parrilla upfront of the restaurant is to set up a relaxed atmosphere to share with family and friends, and of course, savouring a delicious steak cooked to true “gaucho” style and flavour while enjoying fine and luscious Argentinean or New Zealand red wine. We would like to invite you to visit us to relax and enjoy a unique dining experience within a Buenos Aires environment, without having to travel that far! Don’t forget we also have live entertainment, Tango shows, jazz band and much more from time to time, so please check our event schedules.

A great idea. ok with the service, not overly friendly or fast but sufficient. The food was average. My lamb was way too over cooked. Steaks were great. The sides were ok. The desserts were rubbish. Very long waits for food even though it was not too busy when we were there, no live entertainment either as it was a Saturday and we were under the impression there would be. Sorry we thought after the reviews we read this would be another great one for you guys but alas not to be.

We have eaten here twice now, first time a month or so ago. We had Steaks each and they where superb very nicely cooked on the BBQ, the accompanying veg / salad etc was also very nice.

We had Desert also and this restaurant makes the BEST deserts, we love the Pancakes with Dulce de Leche (pardon the spelling) we like the desert so much we went out last night for desert only.

Very nice restaurant !

Hubby is a steak connoisseur and after several disappointing experiences at fine dining restaurants, I researched for THE best steak that can be found in Auckland! All pointed to Buenos Aires restaurant and I quickly made reservation for hubby’s surprise party to be held there. Our little party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and dining experience. Our wait staff was excellent, the Argentine beer was brilliant and the steaks… The steaks were out of this world amazing! Perfectly done and just falls apart in the mouth! I’m salivating just thinking about it! Will definitely be back!

Im not sure if I caught this restaurant on a great night , If I was lucky or if its like this all the time but my partner and I had a superb meal there earlier this year.

The steak was delicious , The sides more then generous and very reasonably priced.

Its a casual restaurant friendly and helpful which can be in stark contrast to some of its Ponsonby counterparts.

Would recommend to anyone

Been to Buenos Aires now maybe 5 or 6 times. It is absolutely top notch. We love it. The food, the atmosphere, the staff, all combine to make this a fantastic restaurant every time we go. Its a lot less pretentious than some of the ponsonby/herne bay restaurants. we’ve tried pretty much everything across the menu. Never had a bad dish. The meat speaks for itself. I have not had better steak anywhere in the city. Nothing less than 5 stars from us.

Surprised at all the raving reviews on here, if you could give 2.5 stars I would.

The salad was meagre, small and unimpressive. Steak was very middle of the road had a lot better in steak houses in the center of town and to top it all off it was incredibly noisy, may just have been the seat we were in, we were in the far left hand corner as you go through the door, seemed to collect all the noise so you had to shout to be heard.

Ah…. so it wasn’t up to the price tag but the staff were very friendly and attentive and have cool accents but you can get that with a burger and a guiness at an Irish bar.

If you love meat, this is the Restaurant in Auckland. Having said that, my partner is vegetarian and she loves the selection and flavors of the vegetable dishes. The wine list is very good and features Argentinian wines and beer. ( the more expensive wines are not necessarily that much better than the cheaper offerings).
Although the mains seem expensive, the fact your choice get two vegetable sides and the size and quality of the steaks makes for very good value. The staff, usually South American, are excellent and I guess what sums it up is that the restaurant is always busy. A taste of Argentina in Auckland.

I was invited to this restaurant for a friend’s birthday dinner at the end of last year. The restaurant was absolutely packed on a Friday night, which made the place very loud and noisy. We were seated in a large table with a big group, and I found it hard to speak to my friend sitting next to me. It also took very long for the waiters to take our orders, as they had to go through each person and talk above all the noise. It was a long wait before the food arrived, but I would have to say it was worth it. The entrees were heavenly – absolutely delicious. And the steak we had for the main was delicious, but huge! Fortunately I was sharing with a friend, otherwise I don’t think I would have been able to finish it (and I’m a big eater!). The good thing is, if you can’t finish it you can take the rest home. Overall, I had a an enjoyable experience here, but I would suggest you go on a quiet night if you don’t want to find yourself in a noisy and busy restaurant.

Buenos Aires is THE BEST restaurant for steaks!

We went there many times, either on our own or taking family and friends with us. My boyfriend even had his 21st birthday party at Buenos Aires, and all of his friends loved the food!

The best steaks are scotch fillet wrapped in bacon and eye fillet wrapped in prosciutto, cooked perfectly to the level you want it to be! Two free sides come with the main course, great value!

Needless to say, the service is superb too! All the waiters and waitresses are really friendly. There was a mistake about how he wanted the steak, and he was immediately compensated with a free chorizo sausage.

Just a note to people who wants to try there, please book in advance because they are extremely busy! Enjoy the steak!

Fantastic! Started with 1/2 a Choripan, wow, so good. Then got Eye Fillet wrapped in prosciutto, perfectly cooked, for $34 including 2 sides (portobello mushrooms and roast kumera) it was excellent value, you could pay $40 for an eye fillet at other places and then pay extra for sides. Great place to eat.

I was in Argentina as an exchange student in 2009. When I learnt there was an Argentinean resturant in Auckland I couldn’t wait to go try their food! And boy was I not dissppointed! We had choripan which is sausage in bread and it was amazing! We also had Milanesa’s with potato chips which were huge! We couldn’t finish them all! Overall an amazing experience, amazing food and would highly recommend to everyone wanting to try Argentinean food :)

Hi all:

I live in Freemans Bay and the best thing that happend to the area in 2010 is Buenos Aires restaurant. It’s a meat lover paradise. I became a regular of the restaurant and go there once or twice per week. I dine out regularly and always look for new options but I must say now that my wild scavanging looking for new restaurants has slow down. I have tried almost all the meat cuts from the menu and the portions were always cooked to perfection and big (I am 6 foot tall and have a big stomach). Normally when I go out I’ll have entree, main and dessert and still be hungry afterwars due to the small servings some people do, but in Buenos Aires I don’t get to eat dessert because I am full after the entree and the main (that comes with two side dishes of your choice for FREE!!)
I definitelly recommended to everyone. I even go sometimes with a vegetarian friend and according to her they have good vegetarian options.

Cheers

I am from Argentina and have been here 8 years. FINALLY someone opened an argentinean restaurant. I went to dine at Buenos Aires last Sunday and the restaurant and the staff exceeded all my expectations. There was a latin duo playing and it was a fantastic night, we really enjoyed the life music, the steaks and argentinean wines. It is a must for those that want to experience typical argentinean food without leaving Auckland
