What a find, one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time was had at Coco Restaurant last night. The service and the food could not be faulted. All the dishes we had looked beautiful on the plate and tasted even better. Thank you for a wonderful wedding anniversary dinner. Cannot wait to return.
We went to Coco for diner on 16 November we went with another couple it was the second time for us as we really enjoyed the experience last time. Once again the food and the service was fantastic, they unfortunately didn’t have our first choice of wine but were very happy with our second choice. Our friends only drink spirits and on the website it states they sell spirits but when we came to order they only stocked Vodka said we could byo if we went and got some and then didn’t have any ice. My friends were quite happy but I felt was a bit disappointing as the rest of the experience was very good.
Outstanding service – a genuine warmth and welcome. My three guests were unanimous – ‘the best meal I have had for years’
Every dish was a taste delight with numerous new flavours and textures. The South Australian Syrah (cant remember name) was memorable. I felt the bill of $225 was great value.
Thank you Coco crew, you made our celebration special
I am coming back to your restaurant tonight for the forth time and i couldn’t rank it more highly. It is always a very enjoyable occasion and the food is of the highest quality. Attendance and atmosphere superb with frequent changes to the menu while still retaining some signature dishes….well done!
We went to Coco just recently, and had the five course degustation menu. It came as a surprise how wonderful the food is, it was beautifully presented and was very pleasing to the mouth. I tend to agree with some of the reviews that the atmosphere needs a little touch up, but overall was very pleased with the high standards of food and service. I would recommended to everyone who loves good food.
Friday night we finally went to a local restaurant that we have been looking forward to since it opened. We had the 6-course degustation menu with matching wines and found it to be almost perfect. This is not where you get bulk roast dinners or Vietnamese street food but rather an assortment of delicate Asian flavours with a French twist. We loved each course and totally agreed with every food/wine match. One small suggestion – more interesting music please!
We’ll be back.
Very good, always impressive and good value for money at Coco’s
There was a nice review of this restaurant on Viva (NZ Herald) so I was very curious about this place. Therefore I did not hesitate to buy the 6-course degustation voucher when it appeared.
All mains were average. However, the 2 dessert following this was simply terrible. It was displayed in a very artistic manner with lots of colours and features which looked attractive. When we tasted it, (I don’t want to be mean but) it was like a cat’s puke. Both Chocolate and this other dish that I forgot the name of, had too many things going on. There were freeze-dried fruits and powders everywhere and some tasted really bitter. Question marks consistently appeared on the table. I have never had a shocking dessert like this before. Simply, we could not eat it.
It’s a shame that every dish is carefully designed but flavours weren’t. It seems like the chef is only interested in how it looks rather than how it tastes.
This place is great. We got a Treat Me voucher it was way worth it!
Wine portions a bit stingy but the size of courses was very adequate. By the 4th course I was chokka. My favourite course was the octopus and squid entree.
We visited Coco for the first time this week using a deal voucher which was two 6 course tasting menus for the price of one.
The food was okay but not anything more than that. Pretty bland with the impression that there were a set number of sauces and ingredients that were rotated amongst the different dishes. Each dish was pretty standard bistro fare.
On the positives the servings were very generous, the wine list was reasonable and the waitress was lovely.
We probably won’t go back and while we felt we received fair value for money with the deal, I think there are better restaurants in Auckland if you are treating yourself to a full price tasting menu.
went to Coco several weeks ago and was blown away by the quality of the food (at least matching degustation meals at euro and cru) and the attentive but not overbearing service. I was really impressed by our waitress Alice who had been trained impeccably.
I was really stunned by the Heralds 3 star rating – definitely not my experience and I hope the business succeeds – we will be back,
Wow went to Coco last night…What a restaurant…. Absolutely up with the best in Auckland.
Have dined at many top restaurants, and this would have to be one of Auckland’s best hidden secrets…
Guys you out did yourself, from the waitress who was amazing, to the divine food.
Absolutely one of Auckland’s best restaurants…. Keep up the great work
Went to Coco last Friday after it had been recommended to us and we had purchased the voucher for a 6 course degustation menu. We were at the 6pm sitting and although our waitress was very sweet and helpful I felt they had too many staff on and they sort of hung around our table at the back of the restaurant.
The food was OK and rather forgettable really…which is a shame because you can see they are trying really hard to make it special. I just found it all a bit bland and in particular thought the deserts were a bit disappointing. Would have loved to see more of the Vietnamese influence and flavours.
Maybe it’s because we had the voucher deal but I won’t be going back for a second try unfortunately.
My husband surprised me with the 6 course degustation menu at Coco. It was fantastic! Every one of the courses was absolutely delicious and looked beautiful. The wine list is reasonably priced and the service was great. We were very pleasantly full by the time we finished. We have already been recommending Coco to friends and family and will be back
Four of us went last night, and had the 6 course degustation.
Delicious food, and beautifully presented. The staff were really attentive, and advised us that this was Vietnamese food with a French influence. So pleased we experienced it – flavours I’ve never tried before.
Thanks for an awesome night.
Dined here on Thursday, May 16. The food was so beautifully presented and superb. It was a special occasion with my 2 sisters so we had the degustation menu, and could not fault it.
A couple of gripes, as it was very noisy for a small restaurant which seats 30 due to the lack of soft furnishings to absorb the noise. So often these days that spoils the ambiance for those of us in our fifties. We have the desire and can afford to eat out often, but like to have a conversation as well.
Biggest gripe though was when we went to pay the bill and were charged $10 a bottle for still water and we had had 2! We were asked if we would like still or sparkling water when we were seated and asked for still assuming it would be tap water. Alas, obviously not. We should have been made aware, especially as they have gone to so much trouble to present and prepare the food so exquisitely, and the wine is not cheap at minimum of $46 a bottle of red.
Make up your own mind. Would be very wary of any restaurant offering water in future and felt disappointed but did not want to make a fuss on a special occasion.
Fine dining at its best!
Had the 6 course degustation menu – the blend of asian and european flavors was exquisite.
Minor faults like the pear was a bit bland for my liking but these can be overlooked for all the amazing dishes. The panna cotta with the citrus sorbe is to die for!! The portion sizes are also quite generous.
The staff were very attentive. My only concern was the atmosphere, which I suppose will develop since it is just a start-up.
I love that there is somewhere like this which is local as we are so lacking in good choices! We went for dinner last Saturday night and had the six-course tasting menu. We also opted for the matching wine with each course ($55 per person) and truly have never enjoyed the wines presented with a degustation menu so much, just amazing, as was the food. Our only tiny quibble, and hence the four stars, is the atmosphere. It’s clean and neutral and tasteful, but was rather cold and stark and the lights were turned up very bright. I feel uncharitable saying it because a new restaurant has to bear all the start-up costs and fitout may not be the top priority, but when we are spending the fine-dining price of $300 for two (which we would have without the voucher) we do factor atmosphere into the decision where to go. I HOPE they continue to do really well then make it a bit more comfortable and “cosier”. The staff were absolutely lovely and attentive and I agree with the other reviewers that the food was gorgeous. Overall a really great experience and recommended.
A friend and I visited Coco for dinner on Anzac Day. We had a voucher for the 6 course degustation. It is more expensive than places I would usually go, however this is definitely a case of paying for what you get.
The food and service were top-notch. The service was attentive, without being intrusive, and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The atmosphere was relaxed and intimate. To start, we were offered a complimentary tofu dish. That, and all six of the dishes that followed, were beautifully presented and packed full of complex but balanced flavours and textures. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back just for the peach dessert!
I recommend the degustation at Coco for that special occasion… or just a lovely night out.
We visited Coco Restaurant last Friday 12/04/13.
We were very impressed with the decor, food and service.
The food was delicious.I tried the 6 courses where you get to try quite a bit! All were tasty and cooked to perfection.
The service was great-very friendly yet sophisticated and very attentive.
Give it a go!
I agree with Michelle M’s review – the staff are wonderful and the food is outstanding. A little more pricey than we would normally pay for a suburban restaurant – but well worth it – the finest tasting food I have had in a long time. Very much recommend Coco. Thanks for a great evening.
This restaurant has just opened and we went on a Wednesday night so there were only two tables seated, so i’m writing this review to try and get more people interested as the food was fantastic – I’d call it European fine dining with a Vietnamese twist. We had the rice paper rolls as shared entree, then the duck and pork belly for mains, and the peach and pannacotta desserts. We especially loved the desserts and the staff/service were excellent as well. Definitely recommend.
