Problem list:
1) We phoned to place an order for pick up, the staff member advised it will be ready in 30 minutes. We decided to give it 40 minutes, and when we arrived he said it will be another 10 minutes, so in total 50 minuets to wait for 2 mains. We ended up waiting another 25 minutes, so over an hour!
2) Order was incorrect. Their were no ‘sprinkled cashews’. We ended up using OUR OWN cashews and stirred it in.
3) Both orders were cold and undercooked. We had to microwave both mains, both rice, and the onion bajis.
The rice was undercooked, hard, cold and raw. We had to cook it for 5 minutes each in the microwave! This was completely unacceptable. The onion bajis were raw, the batter was still raw and wet on the inside, and the onion wasn’t even cooked at all. We had to throw them away. They were not even edible.
In general the food was very undercooked, cold and raw, too spicy even though we ordered Mild, and inedable.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t even give this to my dog, I ended up having toast.
4) The gentleman servicing us kept blaming it was busy, but waiting 1 hour and 10 minutes for two mains and some onions, it was raw and undercooked anyway. We are very disappointed, the reason we chose to get a takeaway tonight was because we were saving time. We had a meeting scheduled, and were late for that, plus we have a flight later tonight. We wasted over an hour waiting for food we had to throw away, obviously going back wasn’t an option with flights booked and all, plus we would probably wait a couple of hours for a replacement.
I will never eat here again, and I will never recommend this place to anyone. The food was below average, and this particular Indian takeaways is actually more expensive than other ones, surprisingly.
Their were no real flavours, it was just an overflow of sauce with a tiny portion of fish. The sauce was a complete overkill. Half way through, it started to go runny and watery, leaving an oily texture, that was when I decided to bin the food.
My partner didn’t finish his either. We spend hard earned money, on food we had to wait over an hour for, which was inedible so had to be thrown away.

Best takeaway place in Avondale hands down- not that thats hard to beat. Aside from that, the food is VERY cheaply priced compared to other indian restaurants, and tastes more like restaurant quality rather than greasy indian takeaway.

We were quite excited about placing our first order at Curry King after reading all the rave reviews on Menu Mania “best Indian in Auckland” etc. Especially as there is really little to no choice when it comes to good takeaway food in the Avondale area, unless of course you like bad fish and chips. We were also pleased to to hear that they deliver. Bonus!
Anyway – our food came roughly on time but was a disappointment. The mango chicken was super sweet with loads of sauce and very little meat. The lamb saagwala was sightly better but also swimming in sauce with very little meat. Both dishes were lacking in that flavour punch you expect from a good curry. Also our naan bread was uninspired with some of the dough still looking uncooked. Wont be ordering again unfortunately. Back to the drawing board I’m afraid.

Absolutely delicious and they deliver!! price is great for quality Indian food. love the samosas. What more could you ask for??
Will definitely be putting their number in my speed dial. Am going to have some of my left overs now.

We order from curry king most Friday nights free delivery great food and comes hot. I highly recommend this place its better then any other curry place in the city not to mention super cheap

You have to try the chicken korma (medium) – it is the best curry ever. I’ve tried a few curries and none come close to this. Looove their food. Reasonably priced too which is just a bonus

One word… YUM!
I’ll be back.

Tonight is not even close to the first time I’ve eaten food here. I’ve frequented this place since before I had kids, as do my parents and my brothers.
Beautiful flavours, consistently serving authentic food of the same high standard. Also very reasonable prices and if for some reason we moved out of Avondale I still wouldn’t give up this diamond in the rough. Prefer it over any other Auckland Indian restaurant I’ve been to in a long, long time, esp considering what I might pay elsewhere for inferior quality. A+

You’ve got to try this place. I could not stop talking about the flavour of the food to my husband and anyone who would listen. I hadn’t even finished my meal the first time I tried it when I just had to ring them and thank them for such great food. What a nice surprise. We were going out of the area for good curry. We are now committed local fans. 10/10.

Drove all the way from east side for these curries. And went back again later in the week. Good curry. And reasonably priced.

The food is excellent! I have invited many friends to share this brillant experience. The service is always friendly and prompt. You do not have to pay for a delivery charge if you spend $25,which is fantastic. It’s so great to have a quiet gem of a place just up the road.

Really really good curry. Keep going back again and again. The owners are really friendly and they deliver too, which is huge bonus. The chicken saagwalla is the best in Auckland. Definitely will be going back!

Best curry ever! don’t be fooled by the surroundings, this place beats most of the trendier, more expensive places in Auckland city. Defiantly give it a try!

Awesome food. Best day to go Wednesday – must have different cook I reckon. Lovely people. Now my local and easy to order over the phone (I must go there often because they know my voice!) Highly recommended. Have tried everything on the menu.

Just moved to the area recently and found this place by chance. Humble surroundings – but ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS FOOD (especially when the lady is cooking). Now this is my families new Indian local. Friendly, helpful staff. Prompt delivery too.
Do try it! Recommend biryani rice & seikh kebabs.

Amazing value – the food is FAR better than you would expect for either the price or the premises.
The Indian Chinese dishes are interesting and a nice surprise.
The Mango chicken is wonderful, so obviously fresh and the korma and madras curries were great too – very flavourful.
Our large group was very impressed with the delivery, and it was great just how different all the dishes tasted.

Relatively low cost, and delicious! One of my favorite places for Indian food regardless of price. Curries are on the slightly sweet side which I absolutely love!
Recommended-big time!
