Best local bar in ponsonby. the cheapest also, tapas were delightful and good ambiance. huge wine list to accompany the great selection of tapas. Nos so sure about their attempts with Mexican food, so I stayed away from it. In general , didas is my local bistro and my friends love it to!

For many months my wife Jane and I have been visiting Dida’s in Jervois Road. As ever we were greeted by Chris the congenial German manager. This time we started with out usual Peralada bubbles and went for the set tapas menu with accompanying wine recommendations. As usual the food and wine matching combination was superb!

Charming staff, top food, healthy ingredients, reasonably priced, nifty location, classy clientele. What more do you want?
I ate there this morning, was greeted warmly by the manager, an energetic man who welcomed every customer in a similar friendly fashion. I was served an expertly prepared plate of scrambled eggs with attention to anything else I might like.
An exceptionally nice touch was that the chef must have ‘bespoke’ the meal just for me: I’m a biggish fellow, and I am convinced that he observed that and prepared the meal accordingly. Delightful.
All the wait staff I met were friendly, attentive, and obviously take pride in working there. One can see why.

I enjoyed several tasty tapas here, the food was great, the staff were helpful and friendly and the venue is a pleasure to be in.

They serve the best Tapas I have eaten, tapas are well balanced, full of flavour and simply great to eat. Prices are fair and the service was the only flaw keeping me from giving them full marks, unfortunately staff did not greet or acknowledge us and were bordering on being very rude. I would definately go back again for the food, if the owners could kick a few rude/disinterested backsides Didas would be just about perfect.

Sublime tapas plates. Best food I’ve eaten this month. The Artichokes stuffed with pistachio & black olive tapenade, settled in a “piquillo pepper dressing” were AMAZING. I mean A-MAZ-ING. Also in the running for top 5 dishes of the month (in my opinion), were the “MONTADITO VEGETAL”Capsicum, eggplant, olive salsa mounted on bread with feta & truffle oil. I was feeling greedy and couldn’t resist the Trufas, that arrived as two dark chocolate truffles with raspberry powder, and two sublime balls of white chocolate & orange with hazelnut crumb. Deeelicious.
I was lunching, so didn’t partake of the wines… but naturally, this place has a tremendous wine list.
For a winter lunch occasion, there’s a nice fire down one end. But some other guy was hogging that spot. So I settled for the other long table nearer to the door. I felt that the restaurant space could be improved with more warm lighting… as it felt a bit dull when I walked in during daylight hours.
I have to also mention the beautifully designed and maintained bathrooms down below. They’ve got the lighting, the fragrances, and the very pretty wall decor just perfect in the ‘ladies’ room!
The food is the definite highlight of this place. I totally loved it.

The service was appalling, on arrival the only acknowledgement we got from the bald bar tender was him sliding over the menu’s. We were not greeted, or asked if we wanted to be seated at a table. All the waiters looked, and acted like they had just come from a funeral. Such a shame as the food is quite good, and so was the wine, but the terrible service overrides this.

I recently moved here from Sydney and this place has become my favourite local restaurant. Fantastic wine list by the glass and bottle. Polite and fast service. But the best thing about this place is the food – absolute 5 star tapas. With traditional selections such as patatas bravas and chorizo to chose from as well as more contemporary duck pancakes or wild boar meatballs – all are excellent quality. I’ve taken visitors from o/s here several times and they’ve been equally impressed.

On a recent Saturday had a thoroughly pleasant lunch there. Good selection of really tasty tapas and a wide range of wines by the glass to select from. Great ambiance both inside with the leather couches and outside with tables on the pavement where with good food, wine and company you can watch the world go by. Service perhaps needs to be a little more outgoing and able to anticipate your needs more – you tend to have to go looking for the staff. Overall, very warmly recommend Dida’s to others seeking a relaxed and civilised watering hole.

Fantastic food, incredible selection of wine. Great atmosphere. We’re definately coming back. Highly recommended

The food is excellent, although, I wouldn’t want to be a strapping bloke on a fish and chip budget. Wine selection – probably one of the best in Auckland. Shame about the line up of the European zimmer frames for the old dudes of Herne Bay…. Parking: Congested.

What a fantastic place.
This is ‘foodies’ heaven!
I certainly hope that Dida’s manages to keep their seating on the pavement against the Council’s controversial attempt to remove it, as it creates a really relaxing cafe scene in this little block on Jervois Rd.
