Excellent quality food. Being a newcomer to Spanish food I was excited to try the variety.
The tapas dishes were great, however the Paella seemed very bland (perhaps it is supposed to be this way).
I just expected more for $18 than a small plate of chicken fried rice with sausage and beans.
Overall, a great way to sample different Tapas. Be aware the prices are fairly high for the portions. Expect to pay up, if you are hungry.
I love the tapas on offer at El Faro. The variety is great, with vegetarian and carnivore options available, all of which are tasty and beautifully presented on an eclectic collection of dishes. The atmosphere very chilled. The staff are friendly and efficient, without being overly fussy. I am itching to try a mussel pot next time…
Came for lunch with my partner, they were doing a lunch-deal of two tapas and a soft-drink for $15, which I think was great value. Four tapas to share between us then, we had a good selection including pork ribs, patatas, and mushrooms cooked in sherry. Lovely flavors and prompt service. I would return for lunch anytime for flavorsome tapas like that!
This happened a few months ago, but I still harbour dislike for this place over what happened… Due to a number of misinterpretations on the part of the staff at El Faro when trying to organise a relaxed dinner for a fair few family and friends, I was left in tears after being insulted by the manager, and told that it was my stuff up (resulting in no food/drink for the core group of people, as had previously been arranged with a set menu). When my husband had to take over dealing with the guy, he finally realised his attitude was causing me grief and he did apologise to him (not me), but I feel it was a case of too little too late.
This is a shame, because the rest of the staff were nice, and the food (when something was finally sorted) was pretty good, and Elliot Stables is a lovely venue. We won’t be going back, and I’d just caution hosting any functions/large dinners there.
Having read the earlier reviews, part of me was hoping to find a reason to complain so that we might be offered a chance to go back! Sadly that wasn’t to be the case.
Lovely atmosphere, good service and fantastic grub. Would highly recommend the toasted almonds, the stuffed calamari and the sherry mushrooms but everything they turned their hand to was excellent.
If you want informal, inexpensive, quality food cooked by people that love what they are doing, this place is hard to beat.
What a great way to experience a little bit of Spain in our own backyard, took my boss there for lunch, we had the most amazing dates with roasted coconut complimented by a recommended traditional Spanish beef stew in a lovely sauce which was tender & great in taste.
Thank you, most impressed with your food & service!
My wife and I decided to break out of our comfort zone and try a different restaurant. I would like to clarify that we like casual ethnic dining that is cheap and cheerful but that is true to it’s origins; we are not food snobs at all but we like good honest flavours prepared with fresh ingredients. El Faro had some good reviews on this website so we thought it was a safe bet. The menu looked appetising but that is where it ended. We ordered stuffed calamari as an entree. It took considerable muscular effort to cut and had some unidentifiable strange tasting stuffing. This was followed by the only main course on offer of a beef stew made with meat that was dry and chewy with a horrible brown gravy that tasted like it came from a packet and we could only manage to eat a small amount each. The ‘patatas’ were simply oily, very salty french fries. When the waitress asked if we liked our meal we expressed our disappointment and she said she would talk to the chef. However we heard nothing more even when I reluctantly went to settle the bill. Avoid.
Great place with authentic Spanish food and drink – the staff are efficient and friendly, its always buzzing and I love it here. And it’s so handy to work – brilliant!
We randomly came across El Faro one day in town and as we walked down cobblestone lane my feet herd the beat of some groovy Spanish tunes and we were there…It was like we stepped into Spain itself. Hidden and private. I love it when you can see and feel the love that someone else has for something they have a passion for. Its not only inspiring but comforting that people can create such an atmosphere. The food is amazing the people are real and its not over priced. The second time we decided to book the upstairs for a birthday. We had 25 guests whom were all amazed at the food and atmosphere. =) Very accommodating and overall Fabulous!
I would have tried all the tapas over the past year or two and never had anything greasy. I have never had better chips. If you’re into mussels you will love how they do them. The toppings are magnifico!
The food was fine but uninteresting. On the evening we dined, they’d run out of bread. The dishes were very greasy and a bread or green vegetable would have helped offset this but nothing was available.
There was live music in the courtyard which is a great idea, but it echoed and we struggled to hear each others’ conversation it was so noisy.
Have been there a couple of times and the food is outstanding good!
On some evenings there is live music.
On recommendation of a friend of mine I took my date to El Faro on a thursday night, and I got surprised by the out of town experience in the Elliot Stables. With the live music and the authentic spanish tapas accompanied by the homemade Sangria. All this for a very affordable price. Highly recommended.
Had lunch there on a recent Saturday. Friendly service, European ambiance, good Spanish-influenced tapas and great coffee at reasonable prices.Recommend warmly to others.
A great fun restaurant. Good quality of food and variety of the menu.
Great food, service, staff, atmosphere and value for money…..what more can i say.
This is a great spot for a relaxing meal and the staff have that Spanish flamboyance. Flavorsome Tapas and great muscles. Although in the heart of the city, it’s location lends itself to being removed from the hustle the city streets.
