Reviews for Fire Wood Ristorante Italiano
14th May 2014
My children bought me a voucher for this restaurant through Book me and reserved at table for Sunday evening at 7pm on Mother’s Day. My husband and I took the opportunity to arrive early and had a lovely walk along beach before arriving at restaurant, we were welcomed and shown to a table and presented with a menu. At this point I presented my voucher for the meal and the owner told me he could not accept the voucher. He spun me a story about trying to cancel his contract with Book me and them not responding to his emails. He refused to accept the voucher or offer us any other deal. He was rude and obviously just wanted to make as much money as possible out of the day as it was mothers day. My husband explained the children had bought the voucher as a mothers day gift for me, but he was not interested. We left the restaurant and went elsewhere. I contacted Book me by email and the owner rang me immediately apologising for the experience we had had, he also said that he had had no contact from Fire Wood, but would be removing the restaurant from his site immediately – which he has done. I also emailed Fire Wood to complain, I am yet to here back from them. All in all what should of been a very special night was ruined by a rude man who should of honoured the voucher!! Will never ever go back

Came here for lunch and tried the chicken fettuccine, which was delicious and such a good price. The food here is great value for the portion size and the service I got was very friendly! Awesome little place, will be back again for sure.

What lured us from next door was the “Lunch Special all Pizza $15″ sign in front of their store right on the edge between Mamma Mia’s and their shop. At first everything was fine, ordered 2 pizzas and 4 sides. Pizza’s were very thin on the toppings and was not cut properly. When it came to pay I was shocked to be charged the full price of $20 per pizza even though it was 2 pm on Friday (Anzac Day) fine I agree that it’s a public holiday and that specials may not apply like they normally do, but what’s misleading was that they choose to put their little chalkboard sign on the foot path to lure innocent patrons into their restaurant and there was no mention of excludes public holidays. I talked directly to the owner he was being rude and argued it’s only our small sized pizza on special and gestured 2 “L” with his hands to create the size. First of all the sign says “All Pizzas” not special pizza $15. Secondly a small pizza is only $12 on the menu board. I’ve been in the food industry for 15 years and in retail for 7 I know what’s misleading and a lure / bait this diffidently is one. Rude service from the manager so I’m just going to do the voting with my feet and go next door next time because I know the service is great and the food fantastic.

The service was poor from one guy who looked after the till. There was a lunch deal to get pizzas for $15 dine in only. It was Sunday afternoon and the guy said to me the special is Mon to Fri only and you can’t share your pizza. I asked where is it stated on the board? He responded I just tell people. The least they can do is put Mon to Fri only and one pizza per person on that freakin’ sign so that it’s not misleading and people don’t waste time to get served. The guy’s tone was rude and he shouldn’t be doing face to face customer service!!

I have been there a couple of times. I always order my pizzas over there. I love their dough and the meat lovers is superb. Also, their Lasagna… is the best I have ever tried in my life! It just melt into your mouth! Divine is the most appropriate word for this dish. In addition, I am not a fan of Risotto but their Prawn risotto is really delightful. The staff was impeccable, nothing to complain about. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!!!

Very very poor service! 50 mins after phone order for 2 pizzas! How long does it take in a wood fire oven? Service was not at all satisfactory, Italian? Should have gone to the restaurant next-door.

I ordered 2 pizzas from this restaurant last night. Tandoori Chicken and King Prawns. I was using a deal voucher and mentioned it on the phone while placing the order. I think that’s where I made a mistake.
Those were the worst pizzas I ever had in my life. Completely disappointing. Chicken pieces on the pizza were hard to even find. As if put on the pizza just for the sake of it. Same with prawns broken into pieces and scattered. My 10 year old son makes better pizzas.
Would like people to check before they run away with their takeaway.
Disappointing.. Never going back again.

It seems that Mission Bay remains a haven for food crimes. The restaurant was clean and warm the service from the waitress was good, my order arrived in a timely manner but the food was poor.
If this is authentic Italian then I now can begin to understand why Italy is in the financial mess that it is.
I ordered two pizzas, I’d be lucky to make one good one with the amount of topping I received. One was burnt in places and uncooked in others. Quite how they did that I don’t know.
Other people have given this place rave reviews and high ratings. I can only assume that the dishevelled looking cook ( authentic Italian chef ) was having a better day than when he scrapped my dinner off of the floor. I needn’t worry too much because breakfast will be he soon and I haven’t gone hungry tonight. But I hope that if you’re reading this and considering dining at this place you don’t. Take your business elsewhere.

Came here with friends. Service was good overall, Pizzas took a while coming and the order was mucked up a bit so had to wait again for another pizza. Pizzas good but not fantastic…But in all a good experience.

Used a deal voucher at the weekend for a couple of take-away pizzas and couldn’t have been happier! Great tasting, authentic wood fired pizzas! Next time will go to try the main menu!

Went to get a takeaway lunch when the shop was not very busy, told there would be a twenty minute wait. Went back after thirty minutes and ended up waiting 1 1/2 hours!! Pizzas were burnt and missing ingredients as well as one pizza not even being cut into slices at all. Highly do not recommend.

I went with two 8 year old boys and we were delighted when they were asked to help make their own pizzas as it was a quiet wet afternoon. THe staff were wonderful and so friendly…. We were very spoilt and the pizza was Delicious! Will be a regular as we really enjoyed the kindness and the cooking.

We went to this gorgeous Italian place because of excellent reviews on MenuMania and we were not disappointed!!!
Hands down most delicious meal I have eaten and I snaffled a piece of my partners pizza which was the best I have tried – I thought pizza was pizza until now.
The service was speedy and the staff were very warm and friendly
We are definitely going to be regulars at Firewood and at these prices we can afford to go a little more often.
Excellent fare, amazing food, fantastic service and a great spot.

So glad I found this awesome wee gem in Mission Bay! Friendly staff, and well priced for such a wonderful location.
I had the Seafood Salad which was to die for with so much seafood, and excellent value at only $20. My husband had the Meatlovers Pizza which was also simply devine. We finished up by sharing the tiramisu which was the best we’d ever had.
We can’t wait to go back!

What a great place to dine at Mission Bay. No surcharge today (Waitangi Day) Lovely food . Big praise for the Calamari Salad and the Tutti Mari Seafood pasta was delicious, A little on the hot spicy side but couldn’t get enough.
The Italian Beer on tap was a nice drop also.
Affordable filling lunch for the 4 of us 2 parents and 2 teenage daughters without breaking the bank.
Happy to recommend and return.

The new kid on the block and well worth a visit or two.
Food is well prepared and presented, tasty and well priced. Experienced management with good knowledge of how to run a consisent restaurant. Menu with good variety to cater for most and wine list to match.
Give it a try – we did and were not disappointed.
