Having read the other reviews for New Indian Summer Restaurant, I found that my experience was very similar to what has been posted. The staff were extremely inattentive. Our drinks order was completely forgotten and I had to ask twice more before it arrived. When I finished mine, I wanted another but, surprise surprise, we were never approached by anyone to ask if things were OK.
The food was OK but nothing special.

This is one of the top two Indian restaurants in Dunedin. Really nice people who run it too. Have eaten here twice in last 6 months and we were remembered from the last time.
Tandoori chops were delicious and well spiced. If you don’t like tons of flavour, let them know to tone it down. Chicken bhuan was excellent and contrasted well with K’s chick pea curry.
For those interested, we had a Mudhouse pinot gris which is a wonderfully versatile wine and really stood beside the meal. Avoided the temptation of naan, so weren’t carbed out at the end either.
Recommend.

I had a deal voucher which entitled me to an entree platter for 2, 2 curries and 2 naan breads. It said to the value of $something.
The only way I could’ve reached this value was to have the meat entree platter, seafood curries, and more expensive naans.
Nope we got what we were given, vegetarian platter, even when I asked for the meat platter, 2 garlic naans, even when I asked for a different type.
Will not eat here again.

I went here recently for a dinner with a friend and we had a vegetarian entree platter and then 2 curries and nann and everything was great. We also both remembered coming here for a large dinner with over 25 people years ago and everything was great that time as well.
Our platter came out promptly and all 4 vegetarian options were great, I wasn’t keen on the mushrooms but I don’t like mushrooms and my friend really enjoyed them
Our mains took a wee bit longer to come out but it was worth the wait. The service was friendly and attentive and I will be back again with friends for sure.

My favourite Indian place in Dunedin. Unlike others who have recently reviewed, I have been here more than 3 or 4 times and never once found the service to be bad – in fact, I would say it is the best service I have experienced at an Indian restaurant in Dunedin.
The food is always great and I’ve never had to wait long on my order. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

We visited this restaurant on 31 Dec 2012 and the quality of food as well as service was very nice. So we decided to dine at this restaurant on valentine’s day. Unfortunately this time quality of the food was average and serving time was too long. we have been waiting for 10 minutes to get a glass of water and after that 10 more minutes to placed our order for starters. After finishing our starters we have been waiting for about 15 to 20 minutes to place our orders for the mains. After waiting for another 45 minutes, I went up to the counter to ask when we would get our mains? And the standard answer was “we are working on your order and you will get it in 2 minutes”. Initially we thought the delay is because of the Valentine ’s Day rush but we saw some people who came after us had already finished their dinner and going back. Finally we got our order and as expected they forget to serve us Naan bread so the waiting period was 10 more minutes so we had our dinner having cold curry and hot naan bread. (I don’t know whether this is because of this time we were there on deal vouchers or their lethargy?)

After reading about the pushy waiters, we where a little apprehensive. They where fantastic. Food was great. We asked for a little something different, they accommodated us without any questions asked . Value for money and understatement. As my mother says our eyes are bigger than our bellies. Food tasted great meat was really tender. Top evening highly recommended.

Awkward and pushy waiters. Nasty atmosphere. foods not bad but wasn’t the best Indian food I have tried. Awesome range of Indian breads though.

I previously rated this the best Indian restaurant in town, but my last in July proved otherwise. (I since learned they had changed owners and perhaps chefs?)
The food was not nearly as nice as it used to be, and they forgot to bring out one of our dishes.
I gave the place another go and had take out from there last month and it was terrible.
Very disappointing for what in my opinion was once a premium Indian restaurant in town.

Went with a bunch of girlfriends for a catch up dinner, all of us were so impressed with our meals, we had a selection of meat and vegetarian curries and all were delicious. The meals are served in lovely metal dishes and presented so nicely. Really good sized meals for the price and the staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming – nothing was a bother.

We dined at this restaurant over the Queens birthday weekend, and discovered that it is excellent value for money. The service is also impeccable and cannot be faulted. Worth visiting again. Could be best Indian restaurant in Dunedin!

The food here is AMAZING. Great value too (we had 2 bottles of wine, 2 starter platters, 6 mains and 6 naan for $220). for the amount of food we got and the quality we were all very full and satisfied. The naan selection is great too. The venue is very interesting and nice too. Best indian I have had in Dunedin.

Great lunch deal – $9.90 gets you ANY curry from the menu (even seafood), rice and delicious fluffy buttery naan.
Curries were really yummy – one of the best I have had.
Service was great!
Will def. be going back and telling everyone!

Fantastic friendly service, and the best curries we have had for years (if not ever). Even the Naan bread was delicious. Beautiful decor, spacious, comfortable and quiet. Will visit again, either eat in or takeaway. The prices are very comparable to others, but the food is much nicer. Also very generous amounts of meat in the curry, which is rare these days. Definitely recommended to all.

I had the butter chicken and it was very nice. I ordered it Extra hot (overcompensating) and was glad I did. My friend ordered his meal hot and it was pretty mild by our tastebuds. Service was friendly

Very nice restaurant with excellent food service was reasonable

loved the fact that they had a blackboard menu with specials and dishes other than the standard menu. service, quality and quantity fantastic

A group of 25-30 of us went to this restaurant in October. They were down one chef (away at a wedding), and you would have never known. We love indian food and thought this was great along with the service. Will be going there again.

I recommend that if you go in a group, think wisely when considering this place for dinner. My group and I waited 2 hours and 30 minutes for dinner. The people who came in after us came in after us and finished dinner before we had received out food. We are never going back here again!

Wow EXCELLENT food i really liked it!

I LOVE Indian food – and will seek it out anywhere I am in the world. I only recently stumbled across Dunedin’s INDIAN SUMMER – and can highly recommend it as the most intricately flavoured and beautifully “sauced” Indian menu in the city.

Excellent food- that should say it all!Very hospitable staff.
