Went to Sofitel earlier today for high tea with the girls. The interior was set up beautifully and nicely complemented by the sunshine on such a nice day. The waiter promptly brought us water and took our tea order. When our food arrived we were so excited to try everything. There was a nice selection and generous portion of everything. I especially enjoyed the chocolate cake slice and salmon. Would definitely recommend!

Cozy ambience, great great food and wine choices.... Our waitress Michelle and manager khoy very courteous and helpful.
They made our dinner a memorable one.
Very subtle flavors ! Amazing presentation.
I enjoyed the chicken terrine and salmon entree.
The eye fillet was cooked to perfection
My wife loves the lamb.
We never go desserts after so much of food but it looked so appealing so couldn't resist.
The creme caramel and the apple desert were spot on.
We loved our experience at Lava

5 star dining experience! Quiet and good service, super sophisticated and delicious food, beautiful dessert! Perfect! If u hold accor hotel membership, you get very good discount on dining:-) I'll definitely go again.

Not all 5* hotel restaurants are pricey if you know when to dine. Lunch times are generally cheaper than dinner time. What lured us here was there 30 minute express lunch option for $30 which was quite a bargain. But we ended ordering from the a la carte menu as neither Mr Wasabi or I wanted anything from the express lunch menu.
Food is here fresh, nicely presented and most of all perfectly seasoned. I ordered a vegetarian dish of Smoked Eggplant, Baked Tofu, Soy, Shitake, Sesame, Nori which is a dish that Mr Wasabi would not even contemplating on ordering thought it was very good.

A great location and so much promise in the way the restaurant looks. We have been here many times but sadly on this visit the food was not five-star and the service was worse.
The starter and main were mostly well prepared and presented but there were a couple of oddities. From the good side, the beetroot starter and eggplant main were excellent. However while the Ox tongue with scampi starter held so much promise it did not need half a plate of tongue - such a poor balance. The toasted cauliflower on the pork belly main was just odd taste and texture as an accompaniment. Desert? what was written on the menu looked great but the reality disappointed. Our expectation of "gateau" is a layered cake but this one was just a mousse with a thin sponge base, the "toffee apple" that came with another option was preserved apples with no toffee to it.
Service? A bit distracted and a little confused. Yes at least one waitress was in training but seeing three of them chat for a while by the kitchen as we waited for one course to be cleared was disappointing. It's restaurant month in Auckland so they had a special four-course tasting menu. Would have been great to have been offered this at the start rather than just noticing it ourselves on a side table as we left.
Likely to return at some stage for the ambience to impress overseas visitors but will definitely be skipping desert.

Visited Lava with friends, for an 8pm booking and although the restaurant didn't seem that busy they asked us to wait by the bar as the kitchen was a bit busy - not a big deal though as we ordered our drinks and were seated soon after. The staff were attentive and informative. I thought the food was fabulous and a lot of effort had gone into the presentation. We had a variety of all courses and I would love to return.

Lovely high tea experience at the Sofitel yesterday. We really enjoyed and devoured the amazing selection of delectables while admiring the tranquil view of the water outside. For the price we paid, it was well worth it!

We headed to Lava Dining for high tea and a girly catch up today. The food was lovely, from the savoury quiche, ham and cheese croissant, egg sandwich and salmon. Scones of course and sweets including macaron, chocolate cake and more.
Despite the rain the view out onto the water was lovely!

Atmosphere was wonderful, service was impeccable and food was absolutely to die for! I would return just for the fresh oysters, the wagyu steaks and lamb rack were amazing! complimentary bread felt like they just came out of the oven and the burnt butter was a little piece of heaven. Beautiful food served with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc made for a perfect night!

Some of the best food we've had in Auckland at a fine dining restaurant. Chef Honeyman has built an outstanding menu. His trademark congee is hard to beat and worth trying if the only congee you've tasted is the breakfast in Asian hotels. Every dish was executed with perfection, flavour meets texture. Service was good, the only let down was the extremely slippery highly polished floor that didn't mix well with kitchen fat and stilettos!

Excellent, excellent food, location and atmosphere. You do get what you pay for in this case, and there are no problems with that. The fish I had that was infused with so many wonderful flavours, now that is not something I will forget for a while. The only gripe I had was a few inexperienced wait staff during the visit.

Food was excellent! love their Beef, was sooo tender. Dish presentation was excellent!
the only thing we didnt like it was the service which was a bit slow other than that, we had a great time!

Was here on a friday evening, was really easy to make a booking.
Staff were all very friendly and onto it. We ordered the salmon entree which tasted great, sashimi without soysauce was surprisingly excellent.
The main was tarakihi which a cheese bake on top, I enjoyed the sauce however my partner was a bit spectacle.
Free foamy butter and bread to start which I ate all of it since I was hungry, asked for extra butter and came quickly also.
Desert was coconut brulee, and was delicious, with all sorts of side tastes.
We had the discount which was great, along with wine and beer totally $134. Was totally worth it considering the environment within a 5star hotel and harbour view :)

While staying at the Sofitel the barman did a great sales job of getting us to try the degustation on offer for that night only to showcase the new chef.
Suffice to say we succumbed and ended up with a very fine experience, but it does not come cheap. Dinner for 2 with 3 wines each was $250 but it was well worth it. We had six courses including one of the best mouthfuls I have ever had in the chefs rendition of Wagyu Tartare.
The staff were very attentive and enthusiastic about the menu and when this was coupled with some great wine matches (I am normally a beer person so very hard to convert) the overall experience was fantastic.
The atmosphere is nice enough but at its heart is still a hotel restaurant albeit a very very good one.
Had an amazing night.

Had a fantastic meal. Service was the best I had ever received, very attentive and a wonderful dining experience. I had the cured king salmon as an starter, was absolutely wonderful, and my partner had the whitebait, another fantastic starter. Would definitely go back again. Thank you to the great staff for a wonderful dining experience.

The Lava Dining experience was excellent, food and service top rate however I can't say the same for the booking process. After asking for a booking via menu mania I had heard nothing from the restaurant after several days so rang them only to find they had never heard of me so I ended up doing the booking over the phone a couple of days out from our event. This worked to a point as the different people I spoke to were very polite although their English needed some work. Finally I got someone whose English was good and the booking was made. Everything after this point was wonderful, had a beautiful day with my whanau.

Booked 21 seats online for my 21st birthday. They took a week and a half to call me in regards to my reservation and told me I must have a set menu which is $75/$85 per person. I asked if they could email the set menu to me ASAP and again, made me wait just under a week to send me the email.
At this point I was already frustrated and decided to change venue. When I called the number provided to cancel my reservation, they had to transfer me three times till I could speak to someone about my reservation. When I wanted to cancel the lady couldn't even understand me when I said it is booked for the 25th of October she kept saying 21? and I had to repeat MANY TIMES "No, 25ht, 25, FRIDAY".
Finally after cancelling the booking, I received a phone call the next day confirming my booking which I had to explain again that I HAVE ALREADY CANCELLED IT!
Terrible service, terrible timing, thank God I allowed plenty of time planning my party or I would have stressed out.

What an awesome night we had at the Lava Dining. The food was just exquisite and the waiter Koi ( Not sure on his spelling) was just fantastic. The staff are hugely professional making us feel very welcome. Definatley will be returning. Thanks everyone.

We enjoyed a fabulous dinner here last night 19.12.12. Our waiter was lovely and had the biggest smile and made us feel very welcome. The food was exceptional I had the Salmon Entree which was fresh and tasty my partner had the Scallops which tasted Divine. Our mains were just as pleasing, my partner had the beef which was tender and cooked to perfection, I had the pork and no complaints from me. Everything on the plate worked so well together and the flavour combinations delightful. Great food look forward to going back for a special occasion.

The service was only okay as we did have to wait a little while to be seated even though we had a reservation. This was not really a problem though as we sat in the waiting area and soaked up the ambiance which was great!
Our waiter was a little clumsy to say the least but the food made up for the skills he lacked. The whitebait was to die for!
All and all a great dining experience with wonderful wine and a great atmosphere. We will return with more friends to ensure the standard is the same.

We went here on a voucher deal,and it surpassed my expectations. The salmon entree was excellent, such delicate and well balanced flavours. The beef main was superb, a beautifully cooked piece of meat.Another stand out was the chocolate mousse. We enjoyed the ambience, and attentive, if somewhat awkward service. Recommended.

Incredible. The food is fantastic, highly recommend the salmon entree. For my main I had the chicken, the waitress recommend it to me and it was one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had (& I eat a lot of chicken.) The atmosphere and decor were lovely, and the service of a very high standard, our waitress (a Dutch girl) was friendly, professional and knowledgable about the menu. I would definitely return even if I wasn't staying at the attached hotel. Not a single complaint. As a "poor university student" it was well worth the price tag :)
