Keen to try Pear Tree for dinner we saved ourselves all day for this. We were disappointed. In this perfect environment you would expect a much higher standard. The menu is small and to be honest boring. The service was top rate but the kitchen must have been challenged as they were quite busy. The food was below average…..I can have steak and chips any time but that was the only thing on the menu that appealed. At least my steak could have been cooked to how I asked for it. But no, and I didn’t want to send it back as it would have taken so long to get a replacement. We didn’t even stay to order dessert which is unheard of for us. Lift your game guys. Will not go again until we hear things have changed,
There must have been a change of ownership since we last made a visit to the Peartree. Our meals were disappointing and more like a pub meals rather than a good restaurant meals we’ve had previously. Still a lovely spot but the food has to match. Hope they lift their act as we will stay away until we hear a better reports.
Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the meals were outstanding and served promptly. Price was very reasonable given the high quality of the food. And of course its a gorgeous setting looking out over the inlet. Will definitely return next time in Kerikeri.
We had lunch and ordered Wagu burgers all day breakfast and 2 dessert platters (shared). They were so flavoursome we thoroughly enjoyed it but we did not expect the best to come and that was the dessert platters a little bit of all the desserts and the combinations worked so well we loved all of it especially the licorice ice cream. We left feeling so full but it was worth every bite. The service let us down a little i felt rushed because as i was finishing the last chips the waitress stood behind me and asked if i had finished the chips which clearly i had not…Also we almost had the menus taken away when we had expressed interest in the desserts. The staff were pleasant enough though. The food was delicous and the surroundings were beautiful so when we are back in Kerikeri we will be returning to pear tree bar and Restaurant.
Dear Pear Tree.
I shouted my wife Ingrid & my 2 children to the restaurant for Ingrid’s Birthday.
They had a fantastic time as always, great service & great food. Thanks again.
Came here for my husband’s birthday, after reading some good reviews online. After the bread & dips starter, I had the lamb rack which was delicious – served with kumara mash & roasted veg. My husband had the 500g sirloin steak with wedges & onion rings. Good portions & reasonably priced. We were stuffed & didn’t have room for dessert but the cheesecake looked awesome. The staff were friendly & attentive. Has a nice atmosphere, & was cosy by the fire. Would like to come back for lunch one day to really appreciate the waterside setting.
One of the few on-line reservations I have made and had to make a toll call to confirm the reservation as no return email received. After hearing such good things about the Pear Tree, I have to say I was a little dissappointed, after choosing lamb for the open sandwich, then to find they didn’t have any lamb, I made a wrong choice with the salmon, as it was not what I was expecting. We finished off with a delightful caramel tart. Would not be rushing back, although everyone deserves a second chance.
One of a kind, Pear Tree is great combination, behind the scenes they are the best kind of professional chefs, in the front of house all is as it should be, a warm, generous and relaxed atmosphere where nothing is too much trouble…..highly recommended and great value too
These guys are great! A year or two back I visited their Paihia restaurant, excellent! Now moved on. The new Kerikeri one is lovely. Good fresh largely local produce, friendly staff, tasty and best quality meals, superb. Pricing, good value for the standard of excellence, no surprises. Tasty menu, interesting combinations: I enjoyed tiger prawns and pork loin and spinach and more as main; an unlikely combo but great balance! Recommended!
The location is hard to beat, stunning. The food is awesome and beautifully presented, thanks to the foodologist. Service was good too. Will be back soon.
Excellent food, beautiful views of the river, and great service. The owner owned a restaurant in Paihia before moving to Kerikeri. Please come back, we loved your restaurant. Kerikeri is most fortunate to have such a quality restaurant. You won’t be dissapointed. Enjoy.
