We have visited the restaurant for the second time in 2 months.
First time was average, this time we had Filetto di Maiale Con Uva, I think it was $36 per dish. Again just average for a lot of money. Won't be back.

Quite possibly the worst dining experience I've had in a while, felt like I was on Gordon Ramseys kitchen nightmares!
The food was of a poor quality and took far too long to appear. According to the very apologetic waitress the chef was on his own, on a Saturday night! No doubt the other chef/chefs had left due to poor management as the proprietor/ manager spent his whole evening stranding at the till merely watching his staff struggle.
When the food eventually came out, after having to ask how much longer the starters would take, it was more than disappointing, had I not been so hungry I would have sent it back, yet feared waiting another 40 mins for a substitute.
Al in all glad we had a discount voucher as I would not be happy paying full price. Will certainly not be returning again.

Went here on a Thursday night with my boyfriend, after coming back from a very draining business trip to Wellington. I had read good reviews about this place before buying a GrabOne voucher.
We were only the second table to be seated at 7pm, however the cozy and intimate restaurant soon started to fill up. We were very impressed with the decor as it was quite romantic and very Italian.
The staff were friendly and took our orders promptly. The food came out within a reasonable time and the food was absolutely DELICIOUS!
I had the Spaghetti Mariana (seafood spaghetti) and seriously it was the best pasta I've ever had. It was slightly spicy (unexpected) but the spice gave the perfect finishing touch to the tomato based sauce. My boyfriend had the Filleto Frutta Secca, which is steak with bacon, pistachio, shallots and apples on the side - the medium rare steak was cooked to perfection!
We were both very satisfied with our meals and would definitely recommend Sale & Pepe! It was the first seafood pasta I have actually enjoyed. Every other restaurant doesn't have enough flavour in their seafood pasta.
The prices were very reasonable for what we got. There were 4 mussels, 2 scallops, a few pieces of calamari and at least 4 prawns in my entree sized dish (only $19!) and my boyfriend's scotch steak was $34.

This is one of the best restaurants I have been to in Auckland. Food is delicious and always comes out hot. Service is great. Have been back a few times and always consistent! Chocolate cake and creme brûlée are awesome!

I dined at this restaurant twice recently, firstly as a belated Valentines celebration, and secondly for an informal farewell dinner. On the first occasion, we ordered the Arancini balls, Mark's Caesar Salad, the chicken pappardelle, the fish of the day, and the chocolate fondente. On the second occasion, we ordered the Arancini balls again, the spinach and ricotta tortelloni, the duck pappardelle, and the tiramisu. The Caesar Salad was a bit too oily for my taste, and the tiramisu a bit too creamy, but the food here is wonderful on the whole. The portion sizes are also much larger than what you'd expect at a Parnell restaurant. On both occasions (especially the first!), we really struggled to finish everything. This place is quite good value for money. The service is also excellent. We found the waiters and waitresses to be friendly and very helpful.

Recently celebrated our first wedding anniversary with dinner at this restaurant. The food, service and atmosphere were all outstanding. We both agree this was the best meal we have had in quite a while. Top marks to the staff and especially the chef's.
The fondente al cioccalato (chocolate fondant) was to die for!!!
Thanks for a wonderful evening and we shall certainly be returning for more.

4 of us tonight. 2 fish of the day with 3 prawns...absolutely delicious. One member had the scallopini which she pronounced great and the 4th person had the stir -ifried scotch fillet. All were extremely happy and the attentive service made for a lovely meal. We will return soon. Thanks for a great evening.

We went there for our anniversary using a voucher. It was hot so we sat outside in the cool. The service was excellent. My entree of scallops was delicious and made a very satisfying meal followed by a warm beef salad. I will certainly go back to sample more of the menu.

We arrived around 7pm and were waiting for friends. When we were ready to order at 7.45pm I had to ask a waitress if we could order and she says I'll have to wait as she's busy with another table. Another guy with a better attitude comes over and takes our orders. My goodness - the longest wait ever for our food. I asked the waiters 3 times after waiting 45mins or so and they'd say 5mins 5 mins. We were thinking about leaving and then our food came. We thought food was average. When the waitress came back to collect food and we had barely touched our plates she asked was there something wrong with the food to which we replied it just took too long. She explained there was only 1 chef in the kitchen as they are currently looking to hire another one and this is the reason why. Her apology was not very genuine. They should have taken the courtesy to explain there would be a longer than usual waiting time before we sat down. Not impressed and won't go there again. There was a really nice waiter there, tall with 5beard. He was really friendly and good at his job unlike the waitress.

We've had dinner here twice now, and both times the food, wine and service have all been faultless.
This has got to be the best italian restaurant in Auckland. If you haven't dined here, you haven't lived - you need to get here - fast!!
Food portion size is just right, and importantly for us, wine pours are a generous size, unlike pitiful amounts that other restaurants serve.
There are many more dishes on the menu that we are dying to try, so we will definitely be back!!

This was one of the best meals we've had. The kids had lasagna and it was fantastic. My wife had pasta nera and it was amazing. The waiter recommended the steak to me and he was bang on - probably the best steak I've ever eaten. The wine choices are great and the Italian wines are exceptionally priced. We can't wait to go back!

Fantastic food and good service. Spaghetti marinara was beautifully done with the spaghetti being perfectly al dente and tomato sauce was flavorsome.
The pasta near with black pasta and sea food was also excellent.
Also had the Filetto do Maiale con Uva (pork) and the Veal Scalloppine. Both of which were great.
Dessert: the tiramisu was yummy as was the affrogato. Will certainly go back to try the rest of the menu.

After searching for an Italian restaurant with consistently good and recent reviews, we hit upon Sale & Pepe in Parnell Rd - wow what a find ! The service was excellent - the Italian waitress and waiter were attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu, which by the way provided a great choice of dishes. We had breads, dips and shared the crunchy seafood entree - light, crispy and absolutely delightful. My husband ordered a scotch fillet steak which he said was melt in the mouth and delicious. I ordered the spinach and chicken tortellini which was the best I have ever tasted - fresh and flavoursome and the portion as a mains was huge ! We couldnt resist a dessert and so ordered gelato and ice cream with espresso coffee and amaretto. A wonderful ending to a superb meal. All topped off with a bottle of their Italian house wine - which turned out to be excellent and great value for money. Compliments to the chef for superb food and hats off to the staff of this great little restaurant . We really hope this restaurant does well - it deserves to and we will definitely be back !

Very good Italian restaurant. Service was casual and professional. Great staff. Food was excellent. We went to Sale & Pepe with a deal voucher and it was a great experience. The wine list was comprehensive and included very good wines from NZ and Italy. Parking is easy in Parnell Road so just a short walk to the restaurant. Thanks

We have been here twice and cannot understand why it is not constantly full. We have tried all Parnell italian restaurants and this one not only surpasses them all but most others we have been to. The service is excellent and the food (especially the duck) awesome.

This restaurant is gorgeous! The service is excellent, the food is lovely and you can take your own wine. It is a nice relaxed atmosphere and the waiter is so patient and explains dishes to you if you need more information. We eat out alot and this restaurant is one of our favourites. These people know how to look after you! Please try it yourselves you won't be disappointed.

Group of six went to Sale & Pepe with a 10% discount voucher. The service was excellent.
We shared 3 starters. Then we had 2 steak 'specials', a risotto 'special', the fish of the day; terakihi, & osso buco. All meals were well presented & delicious
We took our own wine & paid a minimal 'corkage
Most enjoyable evening'

Tried this with discount voucher. The customer service is top notch. The restaurant does well catering for vegetarian. The spaghetti carbonara is really good with strong flavour cream sauce. The dessert Tiramisu was also fantastic. Will definitely be recommending this place to others and will be visit Sale & Pepe again in the near future.

Having seen the great reviews we decided to try Sale & Pepe out, and were not disappointed. Our mains were delicious, reasonably priced and the portions were generous. I really enjoyed my spaghetti carbonara, which was tasty but not too creamy, and the spaghetti itself was perfectly done. The spaghetti marinara was also great.
The service was very polite and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Will definitely be back.

Lunched on a Tuesday, arrived 1-30ish, oh oh?, not a soul! What a fantastic surprise, we shared the mixed fried seafood entree') light and crunchy thin batter, 4 or 5 different fish and so delicate and fresh. I had spaghetti carbanara (glad I chose entree' size) and my friend the Caprese salad, (Mozzerella, tomato and basil e olive oil) both were delicious. Lovely coffee too. We had a delightful Brazilian waitress and the Chef all to ourselves, how special did we feel.
Excellent, can't wait to go again
One wish, that they were both B.Y.O.

We went knowing that the restaurant was reasonably new and so had no expectations. The staff were polite, knowlegable, attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious, with all four at our table ordering a range of different meals and each of us being very satisfied with what we had ordered. The steaks were cooked perfectly medium rare and were melt in the mouth. The salad was fresh and tasty with well cooked prawns. One of the diners was gluten and dairy free and there were several options to choose from - including gluten-free pasta. The chilli beef dish chosen was also perfect. To finish off the meal, a chocolate pudding and ginger creme brulee were ordered. Both were delicious and finished the meal off nicely.

Used a deal voucher here and the food was excellent. The service was really good and the meals were timed perfectly.
The tortellini was delicious and so was the porchini mushroom ravioli. This really hit the spot with home made pasta. Cooked al dente. Well priced pasta dishes also.
We had the antipasto platter which had feta, 2 other hard cheeses, pickled onions, prosciutto, olives, sun dried tomatoes, ancovies, pate, salami and another cured meat. Really yummy. They also swapped out the grissini at my request for some bread.
Will definitely be back. I also like that it's not too crowded and you will probably get a last minute booking.

Very good Italian, had Pasta Nero, Sal had Carbonara, both well cooked, fresh and light, hard to get in pasta. Will be back to try more, this restaurant deserves support and is a worthy successor to Milano.

Sale & Pepe is definitely a great choice for a good Italian evening out. The service is polite, friendly and attentive - but more importantly, the food is delicious. I had the ravioli with porcini mushrooms - the pasta was well-made and the sauce was absolutely delicious. My main of veal scaloppine was tender and well-cooked, and the limoncello truffle dessert ended the evening on a high note. Will be back.

I have been to a lot Italian restaurants, this restaurant easy you can tell the difference from the others, they have real homemade pasta and the food it's not prep-cooked they start from the scratch, you need to be prepared for a savoured repast, an authentic Italian style dining experience, service was very good the chef care about you and the waitress don't look to you like they are doing favor. I honestly think this place deserve 5 star. Well done guys.
