I went today to Salvation Kitchen for the third time. Every time I have the same experience: the food looks good, come early if you are looking for a pie as they run out very quickly, hard to choose what you want as is so much on offer. But the service is really poor. My daughter and I were sitting outside on the only sunny table, the table had six water glasses and a takeaway coffee cup. We spent around an hour there and the table was never cleared or cleaned, even though the waitress came with my coffee and saw all the mess…. or obviously didn’t. My coffee arrived with no sugar and I didn’t even have the chance to ask for any as she left straight away. My daughter had a little shortbread that came in a paper bag with no napkin either. I think Salvation Kitchen only survives because is the only decent cafe in Avondale.

Super good! Probably the best cream donuts and lemon cake ever. Their pies are really great. They occasionally have a custard and berry brioche that goes very quickly in the mornings and that’s amazing. Everything else in the cabinet looks great and they’re always playing some interesting music. Prices are good too.

This cafe has the attitude and character of a cafe in Ponsonby. The baking is very good, with sizable portions. We had the louise slice and it was huge. Will be back again!

I have been to Salvation Kitchen a number of times. It’s fast, efficient service and VERY friendly staff, make the whole experience a pure delight. Whenever we bring our little doggie and sit outside, he gets a fresh bowl of water brought to him. My mum and I even brought our own mugs once and this was NOT a problem at all. It is a HUGE asset to Avondale.

This place is so good. The staff are great and the coffee is amazing. The food is so fresh and I find it has a great atmosphere. I’m their every day. I love the Italian food display. I hope it will continue to stay open, as it makes the Dale a better place to be.

Can’t recommend more highly. Our new fav place. great music, food, coffee, service and decor. We have a 2 week old baby too and its very family friendly. Other coffee friends may remember Brazil on K Rd. The coffee here is as good. Finally somewhere out west to get a good flat white!!!

Love this place! have been there 3 times in the past two weeks. Today had a lovely brunch with the girlfriends. The place was buzzing, so good to see good local business humming. Beautiful food, coffee and friendly service! Def recommend to everyone!

What a great place. Great food, great coffee, great sounds and great location. Nice sunny spot to enjoy your favourite treats! Highly recommend you come and experience this for yourself. More of the same in Avondale please!!!

The meringues were beautifully gooey in the middle, the bacon and egg pie (fresh from the oven) was melt-in-your-mouth, and the coffee was PERFECT!
Love the retro yellow chairs out front.
The best thing that’s happened to Avondale in a long time!
