Reviews for Shahi Dawat

I decided to come in with my boyfriend last week. It was a decision between our usual that is down the road or to try something new with Shahi Dawat. As we entered in all I could think was how amazing and beautiful the entire restaurant looked. Just the feel was amazing, loved it. The lovely man at the counter sat us down and we were given menus. This is were it kinda got frustrating.
It began when the kind man asked if I wanted to have something to drink, so I said "not at the moment, but I'll have a drink later on" as I felt like a cocktail or something. Without even hearing me he took the drinks menu and scurried off and grabbed us some water and pour it for us. The moment he stopped pouring water he walked off with the water steel jug and I was thinking "do I have to keep asking him for water the entire night?" As I opened the menu I noticed that the pages were quite sticky and there were so many pages to read when it could easily be done on a simple 2 page book like our other restaurant. So after searching we found a meal to eat.
As we waited for our meal, we could hear the chefs somewhat screaming and shouting at each other and I felt so uncomfortable just having to listen to it all.
The meal came and I was surprised. The portion looked fit for my 9 year old. The portain was hardly enough and I had finished it in a few minutes. The naan although crispy (not the way I'm used to having them) were smothered in butter or some oil sort and I felt so greasy. The curry was delicous, but the amount for the portion received didn't add up. Eventually I got sick of eating greasy bread and wanting to go home.
Love the restaurants look, like the feel, like the taste of the curries, the service was alright but the naans need improving. I look forward to coming back to see some changes but for the meantime i'm spending my money up the road.

I came here as a friend had mentioned that the food here was great for being out west and we tried going to Kingsland and Grey Lynn for something to eat but parking was atrocious so we decided instead to head out there for dinner instead.
When we walked in I would say that it is very clean and spacious. The only thing I would say is to turn up the heating in the place. It is winter and at nights its cold outside and I don't particularly like going to a cold restaurant either. I couldn't take my thick coat off and I was shivering most the night which was a damper on the evening.
We ordered a mango lassi which was delicious. I couldn't taste any alcohol in it which I can't tell is a good thing or a bad thing since i could have had a lot more and I am certain the calories in it would have been quite up there too. Not that I am complaining though!
The service was top notch, we had our options discussed, and his recommendations were taken into account and the time it took to bring out the food was also efficient. Can't fault this at all.
When the food came out we had the tandoori platter and found it to be a little on the salty side but with the mint sauce on the side cut this quite a bit but I would have liked to have had it on its own. Our naan bread was nice and light with a little crunch to it. The cheese one was also yummy but my friend found it to be too much for her. I thought the curry was a bit on the small size too. I would have liked a bit more especially if we have naan breads would have been nice to dip more of it into the sauce.
Overall was a very pleasant experience.

Best Indian food out West for sure. I used to have another favourite in the area but this far surpasses anything else available. Great food and service, pleased to see more good food options out West. With delivery a bonus if you don't want to venture out.

The best Indian food in Waitakere that I have come across so far in 4 years! Their naan bread is so fresh and tasty. The curries are fabulous. We also started with the mixed sizzling entree which was yum. The staff provide great service and attention also.

We went on a Saturday night in a big group (20). It was fantastic! The décor is amazing. The service friendly and efficient and the food divine. The best Indian food I have eaten for a long time (and I love Indian cuisine). We had a fantastic night and will definitely be back.

Newly discovered by my husband and I, we have been to the restaurant only twice but the service the food and the staff are just the best. The ambiance is also pleasing. My 11 year old grandson also enjoyed it as they had children's meals and his was a manageable size. I cannot say enough about the excellent service and attention to detail, most pleasing. This is going to be a regular event for my husband and I because I just loved the Prawn Malabari it's the best.

Came here for a quick date with the husband. I was really impressed! The staff are super friendly and were very attentive. Always made sure we had enough to drink and checked on us a few times to make sure we were happy with the food :)
The service was also really quick! The food took less than 10 minutes after ordering and it was fresh and hot. I had the lamb biryani and my husband had the mango chicken curry and we were going to swap half way through because I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted to eat. However the biryani was so tasty I couldn't bring myself to share and I ate all of it myself!
I will be (and already have been) telling all my friends to go here! Will definitely be back :)

I loved the ambiance at the restaurant. The team at the restaurant were courteous and our group was greeted by the owner of the restaurant. The food was delicious with large portions of their dishes served. There is ample space for large groups as we were about 10+. An Indian restaurant I would recommend to everyone who love Indian food and those who wish to try the cuisine.

The best indian food in Auckland. Every Indian restaurant that I have been to in Auckland and asked for "Spicy, Indian style", never met my expectations. Shahi Dawat got it ... SPOT ON! The Chicken Tikka Masala was brilliant!
