Beautiful pizza. We shared a smoked salmon pizza which had amazing flavours with pink grapefruit, on a tasty thin crust, and generous salmon on top. The ‘lemon, garlic & herb butter’ topping underneath instead of tomato was very yum.
Only complaint would be that the menu we saw on here wasn’t available at lunchtime, and it was more limited. But the kitchen agreed to whip up a really nice salad for us off the evening menu (mulled pear, baby spinach, hazelnut, blue vein – which was very flavoursome).
Very helpful female staff member greeted us downstairs and another friendly young lady upstairs to assist us with our menu choices, and a really great view in a groovy atmosphere.
Definitely a good place to come for a relaxed delicious lunch.

The decor is great and the staff are friendly and polite. However, as with many restaurants on the waterfront they really only cater for drinkers. If you are a bit pissed then I guess the food will do.
The food is highly priced and presented in a fine dining manor, unfortunately the quality of the food is not great at all.
The chicken was dry and over cooked the portion sizes are frugal. And if you like a frozen then microwaved apple pie with a crust that can then be used as a weapon then maybe it’s not so bad. My recommendation is that you can spend your money better elsewhere.

Sunday lunch. Service was polite, friendly and non intrusive. Food came out quick. Scallops and lamb burger. Delicious! Floor was slightly sticky, properly from the night before. Loved the food, will return.

I came in for dinner last week with my family, we made a reservation and glad we did as the restaurant was fully booked.
Our meal was wonderful, as my husband is a picky eater but loved his perfectly cooked eye fillet.
The staff were friendly and attentive and made our evening.

My friend and I had a very enjoyable late afternoon snack and drinks on the upstairs deck area.
Both food and drinks were lovely and served by friendly staff which always adds to a visit. Both my friend and I will definitely be back to spend time in the sun

We walked in without a reservation for dinner last night, and were pleased with our choice of restaurant: the food and service were both good. We had a few questions about items on the menu (eg where was the whitebait from) which were promptly answered. The oysters with cucumber were delicious, and the combination of scallops and flat mushrooms worked really well. My husband assured me that the pork ribs were excellent!
Only small criticism would be that there are no brief notes about the wines on the list, and it’s difficult to make an informed choice.

Heard mixed reviews like many others however I was very pleased with the service I received! Didn’t have a booking and the maître d told us that yes the restaurant was fully booked however we could either eat at a bar table with no service or wait about 20mins for a restaurant table. Decided to wait, the bar staff were quite busy but acknowledged us straight away which was nice. About 10 mins later the maître d found and said she could sit us now however it was a larger table (there were only two of us) but we were most welcome to take it! Our waiter was very helpful and sat down with us, made us feel very welcome. It’s nice when the service at restaurants make you feel at home

Terrible service today 11/12/13 around 3pm. Two girls were working one was very kind, but the one with the brown hair and heavy eye liners looked a little too cool and acted that way also. The bar tender said she would take our order at the table, we then waited 30 mins and then had to order at the bar. Then we ordered the second round of beers off her and she forgot them.

My wife called the day before to make a reservation for Saturday 5pm as we had tickets to an early show.
Checked their website which confirms open for Dinner menu at 5pm. The girl at the end of the phone confirmed no issue with dinner at 5pm, confirmed our name and made the reservation.
Turned up on Saturday to be brusquely told we had no reservation, and that they ‘don’t provide a dinner menu at 5pm so we can’t be served’ despite the fact their website clearly states they do. Were made to feel like there was a joke being had at our expense.
Rude front of house then said ‘perhaps you’d like a bar snack instead’ – I guess that was his way of apologising for the terrible experience to date.
Left the restaurant to get a meal elsewhere. Soul were most accommodating. Won’t be back to Snapdragon.

Went to Snapdragon for dinner last night. Absolutely amazing. Food was delicious-some things were not what I expected them to be but were still divine. I would like to mention the dessert special they have going at the moment, the chocolate chip bread and butter pudding, it was just heavenly. Our waitress, Briar also made the night more enjoyable. Fantastic service-nice to know waiters out there still have personalities and enjoy their jobs

Went to Snapdragon. The food was awesome. Creative and interesting flavours bundled together to create magical tastes in your mouth. One of the deserts we had didn’t live up to my imagination of the description and Snapdragon took care of it, credited the desert and put it right by providing both my friend and I a drink on the house. Great service, delicious food. Will definitely go back.

I went for a birthday last weekend and found my overall experience to be good. We had a large group and ordered food and drinks as we wanted them. The wait staff were pretty attentive despite our lack of structure. The food was tapas/ sharing style (which I don’t usually like) but I left feeling reasonably satisfied with my meal. The beef sliders were yum, the duck parfait dish had three different tastes which were a little bit hit and miss (although we managed to eat all of it and asked for more brioche…), the beef cheeks and lemon pilaf were very tender and I really enjoyed the venison rack (it was meant to be medium rare but came out MR-rare which I like) with radicchio, the highlight for me. All in all a good night out

The venue is really beautiful, lovely decor..but that’s IT!
We went there for a company function over the Christmas period…We started with drinks in the Lovely bar and then after a long wait for a table we were seated at about 9pm..We ordered from the menu, but when the food arrived I was very disappointed. The portions were minuscule! At first I thought I had ordered a starter by mistake but after checking the menu again I realised it was the main course. Most of us left hungry and not impressed with the service which was so slow, the waitress had to be constantly hailed and at one stage one of us got up to go looking for some service to get drinks ordered! The music was very loud and we battled to all talk to each other.
The quality of the food was poor, portions are very small for a big price and the actual menu was really boring and bad..I won’t go back

We went here for a work lunch function and were all very impressed. The staff were fantastic, very attentive and the food was great, the drinks were flowing nicely, we left about five hours later. There was no pressure to hurry up. Couldn’t fault anything. Would definitely go back! Highly recommended

We went there with my partner and few friends for some drinks, well I should say we wanted to go there but the bouncer was so aggressive, rude and intimidating that he almost punched me. This behavior is unacceptable and certainly damaging the business. There are a million other bars and restaurants in Auckland where they welcome you with a smile. Will never return there. I can spend my money next door.

Great place! My friend had a function organized here and we loved the upstairs atmosphere and the comfy chairs. The service is a bit poor and the bartenders needs some more training because they are too slow. Otherwise, hire some more workers to handle the queue. There was a lot of awkward pushing about at the counter trying to order all our drinks. The drinks themselves were delicious and the nice interior decorations will ensure I bring my girlfriend back!

Thanks Snapdragon my 30th Birthday last weekend, we all had a great night. They organised the room through the bookshelf so my friends and I could have a space to ourselves. A special thanks to Little John who made our night so special.

The worse place I have ever been to. The food was bad, but the service is the worse in Auckland. Staff is so rude that you just give up trying to get anything out of them. No wonder why is empty is such premium location. Good places around, so no reason to come back here!
8th July 2012
Horrible, horrible experience and won’t be returning! Bouncers, bartenders and other staff are extraordinarily rude, acting as if whatever they say is correct and the customer is crazy if they think otherwise. Sorry, Snapdragon – the customer is always right! If you want people to pay your ridiculous prices, you would be wise to treat your customers with respect and not treat them like children.
Filthy toilets, sticky floors and moody staff. If you want a pleasant experience, this place is one to miss!
14th June 2012
I dined at the restaurant on a Thursday night with a Friend.
The service was excellent and the waitress we had was polite, friendly and attentive.
I ordered the steak and it was great. It was done exactly how I wanted it (med rare) and the sauce and polenta fries complemented it well. My friend had the snapper and was impressed that she got a whole fish!
The atmosphere was lovely and I would go back there again.

went here with a few mates to have a good time on a thurs night i think it was. the bar tender was rude and drinks were pricey. dj was stupid and very rude. just ignored us when we asked if we could request a song for my friens bday.
this is just my review of the upstairs bar at night time. down stairs when we went home the staff were friendly but sick of bullshit customer service upstairs at the bar.
ps it wasnt a very busy night yet there was no were to sit as all the tables werent cleared or cleaned

My partner and I have been here once before when it opened so were excited to see their new menu options. They all sounded delicious and was hard to pick but have to say that the gnocchi was sublime. Next time i need to get it as the main! We were served by a very attentive waitress and even though there was a slight wait on our mains, she kept us informed and kept checking on us. The mains were delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. We were told prior it was cooked rare-medium so were able to ask for it cooked a little more to be how we liked it. Have always thought the interior of snapdragon is something special and is nothing like anywhere nearby, has great decor. We had a great experience and I am sure we will visit again.
12th March 2012
Absolutely APPALLING service.
Bouncers were completely unprofessional as they tried to guilt-trip my partner because he was wearing the so-called wrong shoes by telling him to “turn around and look at your friends – YOU are the one letting the team down” only to let a group of guys after us wearing similar shoes! I even went up to one of the guys in that group and asked whether they had been hassled about their shoes and they said “no”.
My friend and I went to the bathroom and found the “wet floor” sign had been knocked over so we picked it up and put it aside – only to be TOLD OFF (like children – we are 25 years old!) by a staff member. When I politely explained to him that we were only trying to be helpful he rolled his eyes at us and said “whatever girls – get out of here”.
To add to the shocking experience – another staff member began abusing us until we all decided to leave because frankly, we’d had enough.
SNAPDRAGON definitely needs to re-look at their service. Staff appear to be unhappy with their job. I used to go there on a regular basis – however after this horrendous experience with their badly trained staff, I will NEVER be seen there ever again.

We went for a business lunch. There was three of us and it was very quiet when we arrived. The service was good. The bread was yum, but then it kind of went down hill. We all ordered fish. Two had the gamefish and specifically asked if it was cooked, yes it was. When it came out and they started eating it turned out half of it was cooked on one and three quarters on the other so the dishes were sent back. The waitress was happy to do so, but soon brought them back with a no, chief says thats how they should be. After we stopped laughing at this (are we not paying) the manager came over to apologies and tell us you know thats how its cooked. Well tell you waitress to inform people they are raw fish when they ask. To cut a long story short he gave us free deserts and coffee (really yum), I wont go back though because at the end of the day, he who pays should get what he wants. If you cant trust that you don’t go back.

Well I had a fantastic experience at Snapdragon recently so I thought I would give them a virtual high five in the form of an online review of sorts. I don’t remember the staff’s name so this seems the best way to give credit where credits due!
It is not the first time I have been to Snap. I have rolled in there on the odd occasion on nights out, I have enjoyed the ambience in the past so thought I’d give it a go when planning a night out with the girls. The restaurant and bar is cool, different places to sit and little nooks and crannys to relax in. But the dining experience hit home the pleasing combination of cool location, delicious food and friendly and efficient service. Our waitress even handled the ‘…but on the side’ and ‘without the…’ curve balls with good humor PLUS managed to get it all right! A rare occurrence!!!
All in all, topped off with a balmy auckland overlooking the Viaduct, a good evening was had by all and I recommend you give it a try.

Great bread rolls, lovely olives, awesome music! and good service at times … but… the meals were bitterly disappointing, out of the 5 of us one was slightly happy with his steak although it was overdone.. and the rest of us were left thinking the meals were plain… two of us ordered the prawns… we smelt them coming before we saw the waiter they were defiantly not fresh and stunk quite fishy, i left a number of mine as i started to feel ill, when mentioned to the waiter the overly fishy smell he said “well its prawns” both if us eat a reasonable amount of prawns and have never smelt fresh prawns like that! no wonder this place was totally empty on a sunny Monday lunchtime….
4th January 2012
We went here in a group of 10 on new years day for drinks after lunch, we were all in a happy mood, but no one was overly drunk.
Over priced for drinks and food considering there was no table service, so we had to keep going to the bar.
After we had spent nearly a $1000, they decided we were to noisy, so no more, there was one other table, may they didn’t need our money. I can’t say the service was terrible because there wasn’t any.

I was really disappointed with Snapdragon.
Wandering aroung the viaduct on a sunny Saturday afternoon looking for where we will have lunch to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We decided to go into Snapdragon, have a drink at the bar and look at the menu.
We were left standing at the bar with no acknowledgement. When a girl did arrive she was not very welcoming at all. No smile or hello. We ordered our drink and I was absolutely horrified when she used my glass to scoop the ice! This is really dangerous and really bad practise. That wasn’t the worst of it though, it was the dirty look and the fact that I got tutted at when I pointed out that the glass did in fact have lipstick on. She threw the ice back in the ice-pit and used a glass (again) to scoop the ice!
By this time I was pretty over the bad service and had no intention of even looking at the menu. The drinks we had were not of the best quality and so we actually ended up leaving them and leaving the premises.
Sorry Snapdragon but you really need to up your game. Serious training needed in your establishment.
We ended up at the Tyler Street Garage and the service was completely at the other end of the spectrum. Pay a visit- you could learn something!

I went to Snap Dragon last week with a group from work and I was really impressed overall with the service, excellent food and drinks selection and the location is great, excellent views over the waterfront. It was great to see the tasty Kirin beer on tap as it is a hard beer to find. The bar was very busy however all the staff were very helpful, friendly and we were all served quickly and there was never any long wait to be served. I Highly recommend Snap Dragon to anyone and look forward to going again this week.

Food is very nice and well cooked but the mains are so small. Went for lunch only had main and left still hungry. So recommend you make sure you order sides with your meal.
We tried ordering bread once the mains were ordered but it never turned up. They blamed the new computer system (oh how original).
The managers wander around asking if all is ok which is nice but they never wait for the response as they have already walked off.
19th May 2011
Food was great! only thing is there portion size is very small!! Main size is like entrée size. But they still charge the top dollar. You order you main and it is very small, you also have to order sides to go with it, they not come with potatoes, salad etc.
The food is very nice but you end up leaving still hungry.
Great place if you not hungry and want some great atmosphere, great service and fantastic wine.

My partner and I dined at Snapdragon last week and were very impressed. Not only were the waiters extremely helpful, the food too was superb. We had two main meals which were the corn-fed chicken and the dry-aged beef. Both were cooked perfectly and the steak was especially delicious. We also shared the lemon and lime tart which was full of flavour and enough for two to share. Pricing was as expected and the location was beautiful especially at night with the lights on the water. The upstairs layout with the secret room too shouldn’t be missed.

I already love Foxglove in Wellington so came to this new one with high expectations for the fitout and style, and it was great. What I was even more impressed with was the food! I had such a fantastic steak I am still thinking about it two days later. Great for the Viaduct to have a new face on the block in time for summer – this place will pack out.

Funky, bustling, cool. Food was well cooked, tasty spinach and silver beet side-dish was particularly delicious as was the creme & banana pie. Priced according to the location, $65 each incl. main, dessert , glass of red and strong rich coffee. Service was friendly and attentive. Make sure you have a look upstairs at the various rooms and the to-die-for wall paper. Very happy that Auckland has something like this to offer. My only suggestion would be that management have a chat to the ‘hostess’ re her attire – not appropriate, bordering on embarrassing. In fact the waiters looked a bit odd in the checked shirts too. However overall this is a minor issue and easily fixed. Well done for offering a fine evening.
