Reviews for The Spicy Affair

Very disappointing meal, at over the top prices.
We ate before the All Blacks game this Saturday.
On game nights it seems they only offer a set meal, which conveniently they do not mention the price on the board or when you are ordering.
We ordered two set meals and received a single Butter Chicken, A Beef dish, a very small Veg dish, some rice (not enough for two meals) and a single Nan between us.
The Butter chicken was very nice, but the beef was extremely dry (we left most of it), and the veggie dish portion was laughable for two orders (One assumes if you order it for one you get two small pieces of potato).
It was obvious that this was cooked well in advance (too far in advance for the beef), and just served out with the rush – a good idea if done well, but in this case it was not.
But the shocker was when it was $60 for the pair (not including beer etc). Im sorry this is over the top for what was served up and, for what was not a particularly good Indian meal.
To top it off – it took ages to get our meal served, and amazingly they did not have enough cutlery for all the tables. They offered us some plastic ones, but in the end other diners shared unused items so we could eat.
Would I recommend the butter chicken – in a heartbeat – it was very good. But for everything else I would recommend giving this place a miss, and eat at the pizza place next door.

Awesome food. I’ve just tried the take away and it never disappoints. Huge portions! Always on time!

We went to this restaurant for the first time last night. Because it was an All Blacks test they made us pre-order our food online so there would be no delays. The service was poor and we only got our entree 50 minutes after we arrived and it was only because we reminded them numerous times. We had to leave without eating because otherwise we would have missed the kick-off of the test. The service was terrible and when we went downstairs no one was there! I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and there are certainly much better options out there. It was appalling! The staff continually lied about the food being on its way and seemed not to care at all! A horrible experience and we will certainly not be returning! We would not recommend anyone else risk it!Comment from jesal of The Spicy Affair 10/06/2013

Great food, best naan I’ve ever had. The chicken Bombala was sooo tender and flavoursome! We also had a lamb dish, again simply beautiful. Great Curry, something a little different from the norm. Exciting food and flavours, I’ll be back, again and again : )Comment from jesal of The Spicy Affair 2/06/2013

I went to this restaurant as I bought coupons for it online. After reading such rave reviews I was really excited to try it out. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed. The food arrived 50 mins after ordering, one of the items we ordered did not even arrive until we reminded them. We had to ask for water and napkins. The service was very very poor. The hostess then made excuses in regard to why the food was late and none of which was believable. The food was very average. The meat dishes were good, but the vegetarian dishes was very bald and sweet tasting. Not authentic at all. Really disappointed.Comment from jesal of The Spicy Affair 30/04/2013

We were a group of 4 adults and 4 children (including one child who didn’t like or eat curries!) looking for somewhere to eat before a Blues rugby game. We were warmly welcomed, in fact the service was awesome, a relaxed dining evening with the kids. The curries were the best that we have had and even the child who didn’t eat curry can’t wait to have her next meal there! Great prices also

I went here for dinner last week and the food was really good! I like my curries with plenty of gravy so I can soak it up with basmati rice and naan, which I did. And the naan was better than the usual naans I’ve had before, crispy but not hard like the person mentioned above. I guess the only problem was not having a napkin, so I just asked, not a big deal. Thanks I’ll be returning soon and hopefully get a similar meal with lots of gravyComment from jesal of The Spicy Affair 30/04/2013

We went there as a group of 8. We were seated on first floor. Beautifully decorated room with a view of Eden park. We ordered assorted entrees. My mixed platter was well decorated with tangy tamarind and mint sauce….brilliant.
Followed array of food…all looked delicious, I had ordered Balti chicken, was served in copper bucket…looked beautiful…equally it was delicious. We had a great time…..service was excellent, well looked after and was prompt with drinks…
Only downside for upstair was it’s was little hot. We asked our host and she said they are in process of installing heat pump/cooler for upstair.
We will be back with larger group. Thanks a lot for wonderful food and service…keep it up.Comment from jesal of The Spicy Affair 30/04/2013

Do not go to the Indian Restaurant on Sandringham Road called “Spicy Affair”. I’ve been there twice for takeaway curry and naan bread, and both times, the naan was almost as solid as a rock, and the curry was as oily as crap. also, they didn’t seal the curry container properly last night when I went there after work, so my curry went all through the plastic bag, so i didn’t get my dinner in the end. What a waste of money and sitting round waiting for my food! Also, lucky the plastic bag didn’t have any holes in it, or the curry would’ve gone all over me while sitting on the bus to go home!Comment from jesal of The Spicy Affair 6/02/2013

The Spicy Affair serves the most delicious Indian food! My partner and I have been there serveral times already. Each curry we’ve had, has been as lovely as the last. The service is great. Restaurant very clean and welcoming. My favourites so far are Chicken Pondichery, Rogan Josh and Bombay Aloo. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!Comment from jesal of The Spicy Affair 30/04/2013

Great food……best curry in town.
We had new dish called chicken bomballa….. It was served in unsusal serving dish (quite nice).
Just beware that this dish comes with bone in and has strong flavor little bit on spicy side.
