A lovely little restaurant tucked away in Khandallah. Comfortable surrounds, not too noisy, not too quiet. Very good food presentation. Friendly owners.
Overall, the food was great. On seating, we were given complimentary cucumber and cream cheese amuse-bouches. My entrée of medium-sized scallops in a very light curry served in a papadum worked very well, and was delicious – best scallop dish I’ve had in years. I could have had that as a main. My main was pork, which I found quite average – a little tough and bland. My dessert was a home-made honeycomb icecream stacked with some kind of profiterole material, with lashings of chocolate sauce. Although it wasn’t very honeycombey, it was popular with my table-mates.
There seemed to be only one waiter who wasn’t one of the owners. He seemed to be attentive, well-groomed and professional, without being obtrusive at all. He was also cute.
Although the food and environment were nice, I found the overall price to be about 25% more than I would expect for similar food in a similar place.
Great service, and the food is absolutely phenomenal. It is the best food I have had in Wellington and I have eaten at a lot of restaurants in the city. Really nice owners, and the wait staff are attentive but not intrusive. Will certainly visit again and bring our friends.
We used to dine here regularly but hadn’t been in about 2.5years due to having a child. We decided to go for lunch today (with small child in tow) and had yet another fantastic dining experience. The food, coffee and service is consistently of a high standard – we’ve never experienced a single off day – and they were very flexible and accommodating to our three year old (not really their target audience) by offering to plate her a half potion of anything on the menu. The menu steps a little outside the mainstream lunch/brunch offerings as well, which makes a refreshing change. We will be back!
We have been to Taste several times over the last few years, and are always really impressed with the experience. It is definitely our favourite restaurant, and being local makes it even better. The service is absolutely flawless – friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. The food is delicious. The ambience and decor is relaxed yet classy. if I had one recommendation it would be to dim the lighting a fraction, to create a more private setting. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to those wanting a more ‘special’ dining experience.
We’d heard great things about Taste, so tried it one Saturday morning for brunch. We weren’t disappointed. Service was impeccable and the food absolutely delicious.
Turning up with 3 children in towto what’s quite a stylish place didn’t cause a ripple – we were offered half portions, and in the end a large breakfast was plated between two beautifully. Ingredients fresh, high quality and presentation excellent. Coffee fantastic.
Pricewise, it’s up there certainly. And they could have done with making the blue cheese on toast breakfast a bit more substantial – but it’s quality through and through.
My husband and I went for a quiet dinner having heard good things about this suburban restaurant.
We found a small restaurant that has been cleverly made to feel light and spacious by the generous use of large mirrors, warm neutral colours and good lighting.
We found the service excellent, arguably the best we’ve had in Wellington. Discreet, efficient, thoughtful, flexible, knowledgeable – overhearing me muse over the wine I would like but would not be able to drink a whole glass of since I was driving, they offered to pour me a half glass; water glasses were kept full at all times in a very discreet manner; and the dessert we decided to share was thoughtfully split onto two plates for us without us asking. We were invited to relax and stay as long as we liked and consulted on the length of time we would like between courses. The atmosphere was relaxed but the service was wonderfully attentive without being intrusive.
The food was simple and elegant. Each dish we enjoyed was well-presented and considered, and just the right amount. The star dish for us was the seared scallop entree – they were cooked to perfection and served in the most sublime creamy curry sauce.
We loved our experience there and will definitely be back sooner rather than later.
Ate here last weekend with a small group of friends! Please please update the menu and decor. We don’t all have dementia and grey hair, so a change of something would be great! The company was the best part of the evening but the man serving….. Just not nice!
Pleasant attentive service and sublime food followed by
Made my visit here for Dinner with a group of friends the highlight of my Christmas. Looking forward to the opportunity to dine here again
It never ceases to amaze me. I have eaten at this restaurant 5 times now over a period of a few years, and I am still impressed with the whole experience of eating here. It is always very busy. I love the little sandwiches served at the beginning and the service is great. The menu is simple but stylish and not over the top with a whole swag of dishes. I have never left food on my plate because it is always is a joy to eat without feeling overly full. Friendly welcoming staff. It does pays to book because it is so popular..just enjoy.
Always a good experience!
Taste claims to be a “suburban dining room” which is an accurate description. It has a short menu, all of which is beautifully presented and well made.
Service is absolutely impeccable. The wine list is interesting and varied.
It’s a good place for a couple or a small group. Best to call ahead as it is often full.
