Reviews for Vinyl

Vinyl is a small, funky cafe located in Mt Eden on Dominion Road. We went this morning and by 10am, all the seats were taken and the place was buzzing.
I ordered a flat white and the 'Zeus' - fried tofu, sweet chilli, hummus, avocado and ciabatta. The flat white was very nice, maybe a little burnt but still very good. The food was great, quite spicy, so it was nice to have the hummus and avo to help cool it down.
My bf ordered the vine tomatoes on ciabatta with haloumi which he devoured quickly and thoroughly enjoyed. The service was good, the staff were attentive and very helpful. They seemed to have a lot of regulars which is always a good sign!
The interior is amazing and was actually the initial reason why we came here. Lots of interesting art to look at while eating! Plus the music is very cool, giving off a great vibe.

I was looking for a new vegan place to try out and decided to try Vinyl.
It's a small place, but has an amazing energy. The staff were funny and so attentive.
The music was a tad too loud, I found it a bit hard to hear my company.
The food on the other hand, was really good. Apparently, the cheese burger is the best you will ever have. As for my Vegan burger, it was far better than I expected, I'd say it was definitely one of the best I've had. I was very tempted by their vegan goodies too but I didn't get the chance, next time.

Great to have vegetarian food done so well! The Zeus breakfast is always spot on.
Plus they sell Tommy & James ice cream so another tick there.

Good service, good food and nice atmosphere. Definitely worth visiting if you're around the area. Tried the burger and for a cafe it was better than a large number of specialised burger joints

This is truly one of the best little cafe's in Auckland, I took l my brother here (he is a chef) a couple of months ago and he is now addicted to Pedros Eggs.
I love the burgers and curly fries too. The staff are friendly and greet you with a smile. Well worth a look.

Hands down best cafe in Auckland as far as I'm concerned. Both the coffee and the food are superb, with options to suit all tastes and diets, both healthy and naughty. Be sure to check out the wraps in the cabinet, the interesting bits and bobs on the blackboard menu, and the to-die-for porridge varieties that change with the seasons.
The staff here are excellent, too. They always take the time to get to know the customers, memorize your usual, and make you feel like a friend. They rock.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough. You won't regret checking it out.

Used to love Vinyl (even if it's always been a bit inconsistent in quality) but had a really poor flat white there last week - quite a shocker actually. They use Supreme coffee, which I usually love (Good One/Supreme in Ponsonby is a favourite cafe). But if Good One's flat whites are consistently 10/10, Vinyl was like a 2/10 - which should not be possible when they're both using Supreme beans! So it's either a problem with their espresso machine or lack of skill from the barista. That's why I'm posting this, because I know they could be so awesome (and I love the concept and vibe of the place) - it's just a lack of care or know-how. Whatever it is, they need to step it up (more barista training, machine maintenance...) then I'd be there every day.

Great service and vibe, but I did leave hungry...I ordered the Tofu Scramble with no bread, I got offered extra portobello mushrooms instead of bread which I accepted.
When my meal arrived, it was really small...I'm a small person with no large appetite, I just thought for $15 it would be a bit more generous. I couldn't spot the extra mushrooms either, I think they were forgotten, unless they were actually cut up and included in the scramble. The Scramble was really yummy, just really small.
As an avid tea at cafes drinker, a larger pot would be great too, I couldn't even get 2 cups from the pot.

vinyl has recently had a bit of a branding makeover and are now offering a new and updated menu, with the old favourites still available.
still the best cafe in auckland to visit with vege friends.
coffee is seriously good (might be the new barista) and the eggs benedict is hard to beat. in fact i would go so far as to say they are probably the best eggs benny offering in auckland... the potato hash is the best hangover cure ever!
the new items on the menu all look really amazing so will have to come back soon for sure.

This little cafe has a great vibe and fantastic food if you order the right items. The hamburger is excellent, particularly if you have curly fries with it, and the eggs benedict is also delicious, made even better by that deep fried hash brown that the eggs sit on. We didn't enjoy the scrambled eggs in either the breakfast burrito or the spanish eggs as much though, and I make better baked beans at home also. Definitely worth coming back for the star items.

I tried this coffee shop for the first time last week, and thought the lady that served me was really lovely and polite, i also had a great Chai latte! This place is really cute with its own unique character. I find working within the High Court in town i get sick of the same standard boring coffee places as they lack any personality. Will be back for sure!

I'm a regular at Vinyl and having just read the review by the woman in November have to say thats the first negative thing I've ever read or heard about Vinyl. The staff are amazing. Always taking the time to say Hi, they remember your coffee preference and the breakfast burrito...my god. Its fantastic. Service in my experience (which is plentiful visiting most days) is excellent. Coffee the best. Food brilliant and I love how light and airy the cafe is with the windows up the side. Ignore the haters guys. You got it 100% right. Thanks for all your hard work day in day out and for creating a positive place to start each day.

Always great, original food and awesome coffee! (the girl at the counter always remembers what I have and I really don't get the chance to go there that often!)
Food is always quick and the decor is simple and clean.
I only wish it was bigger so we can take bigger groups of friends!
Love the friendly vibe.

Came here with my partner for breakfast what a waste of time. On entering this "cafe" we were greeted by a somewhat frazzled "barista" a woman somehow trying to resemble something out of Miami Ink who was flustered by the two coffees she had to make, when my partner asked if she had a menu she grunted here and take a seat and I'll be with you later....10mins later she walks over asks us what we wanted we ordered a soy chai, tofu scramble and scrambled eggs....10mins later our chai finally arrives no other customers in the place not too sure what the hold up was maybe milking some soy beans???? 20 mins later....still no other customers our "food" finally arrives there were two "chefs" in the kitchen???? my tofu scramble average but my partners scrambled eggs were runny like a chicken had diarrhoea on the plate it was disgusting it was inedible and had to be literally eaten with a spoon. So I went up to the wannabe Kat Von D with the eggs told her exactly that and she goes yeah I know so I grilled her on it if she knew it was'nt up to standard why serve it to me, no reply and also no attitude funny that, anyway I then asked to speak to the owner who I saw in the kitchen cause he had made the egg porridge but he would'nt come out and hid behind the wall (wtf) so I left without paying for the egg soup and thinking that this place and the staff should spend less time trying to be retro, rock 'n' roll tattoed tryhards. By the way my partners a chef and I'm a barista and we've collectively been working in hospo for 15years.
In response to your response why so shocked? Take the criticism and be honest. You hid in the kitchen I waited for you, you would'nt come out, you've got an open kitchen for gods sake!!! (lol) You shook your head and would'nt come out to see me.
And as for my comments regarding what you looklike, were visual us humans and I've got mates in hospo who are highly successful that don't advertise their tatts cause you know sometimes it's just a little bit unprofessional, but who cares bout that just take it on the chin just like we had to take your lack of customer service. And yes cause of the length of time I've been in hospo I know what customer service is and should be. I've worked both in the kitchen aswell as front of house so dude when I go out and spend money I expect it to be money well spent and even the chick that served me the "barista" (lol) agreed about your runny eggs????
As for your loyal clientele it is most probably made up of your friends and friends of friends etc or people that have'nt ordered the scrambled eggs (lol) So dude be a man take the criticism and have'nt you heard of the old adage "the customer is always right" sheeesh pretty damn basic. P.s check your grammar and use spell check next time you want to respond to me cheers lol.

We ate here for lunch. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. The menu had a nice selection of dishes (including vegan options clearly marked, which I appreciate!). The staff was friendly and the atmosphere is nice.
