Reviews for Wooden Board Kitchen

Three friends and I tried the Wooden Board Kitchen one Thursday evening. We had purchased two deal vouchers off Groupon. None of us had actually heard of the place, considering it is located on Upper Queen Street just off K'Road. Each voucher was for two people and included a shared entrée, two mains, two desserts and a glass of wine or beer per person. It sounded like a pretty good deal to me!
The restaurant itself had a nice and cosy feel to it, but it felt like you were just having dinner at a friend's flat. It was missing that restaurant feel.
We first started with entrées - Pan Seared Scallops and the Braised Beef Cheeks. I did not try the beef cheeks because I am not a fan of them, but the scallops had a really nice flavour. For mains, two of us ordered the Lemon Thyme Chicken with potato gratin and green beans. Nice looking dish and tasted great. My other dining companions ordered the Spaghetti al Pesto with prawns. However, there were very few prawns, so basically just a plate of spaghetti!
I was really excited about dessert because it is my favourite meal of the day! Three of us ordered the Sticky Date Pudding. While it came with caramel sauce and ice cream, I was disappointed by it. Quite dry and not enough sauce and ice cream! Our other friend ordered that because apparently it tasted delicious. The friend who ordered it is another dessert fanatic, so I trust her word!
The service was okay, but I would not rave about it. They only had one waiter on! As the restaurant started filling up, this became a problem. We waited AGES for our meals. I had to ask several times when each meal was coming because it was getting really frustrating!
Overall, the food was good, but kind of like the normal fare, you could cook at home. I would possibly go back to try that special chocolate dessert but other than that I would only try the rest of the menu if another deal voucher arose.

Excellent food and great portions.
Service a bit hit and miss. But very friendly.

First time at Wooden Board, really tasty food. Nice, cosy atmosphere, felt very comfortable.
For entrees, we had the scallops, beef, prawns and squid. Mains, we had the lamb, fish, tiger prawns and pork. Dessert was sticky date, apple crumble, eton mess and choc pudding.
The entrees and mains were faultless. Apple crumble had a very weird savoury taste to it, almost like it was cooked in the same baking dish as the pork. However, it doesn't matter, as we thoroughly enjoyed our evening here, and will certainly be returning for more.

We really enjoyed this experience. The service was wonderful - couldn't fault it whatsoever. The entrees were amazing. We had the squid and scallops - WOW. Also the mains were really great. Highly recommend the lamb. The only things lacking really were the sticky date pudding wasn't great - a little overcooked maybe? And the décor could be slightly improved (get rid of the flower art) but I really loved the wall with all the random frames. Fabulous! Overall though the two little things didn't matter much and we really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend.

Simple, unpretentious but tasty food! Perfect for a cold winters night. We went to celebrate my Mum's birthday with a party of 6 and all meals were excellent. Definitely recommend the braised beef and scallops as entrées, and pork as a main. Will be back to try the rest of the dishes :)

We went with a deal voucher and it was our first time using a voucher off of a website like this (but we have used the entertainment book many times). We were worried we would get less of an experience because of our voucher but were so happy to be treated like regular customers. The restaurant was busy and loud, our food was delicious. The boyfriend loved the beef cheeks and the lamb shoulder. I loved the beetroot tart and the chocolate lava dessert. Everything was great, and we noticed how well priced the menu was even without a voucher. We will most likely be back for another date night because choosing what to order was so difficult! Everything sounded so yummy. It was a great night with delicious food. They could do with a cocktail menu though.

Went to Wooden Board Kitchen last night - WOW. There were 3 of us and the bill came to $135. That included entrees, mains, 1 dessert, plus drinks. Every dish was superb. Could not recommend this restaurant more. Was reluctant to write this review as we really want to keep this place to ourselves. Enjoy people.

Came here on Tuesday night for my wife's birthday, chose it based on the reviews from this website and wasn't disappointed. Nice atmosphere and friendly waitress but it was the food that amazed us. Scallops and beef cheeks for our entrees and the braised pork and skirt steak for our mains, all of which tasted amazing. Great price too, we had a bottle of wine with our meal and the bill came to just over $100, a bargain for such a great meal in Auckland. Will definitely go again

I actually went to this wonderful place back in April for my partner's birthday. There were 12 of us there and food was great along with really good service and atmosphere. Thank you, will dine there again.

Food and service were great!
It's not often you visit a restaurant and you're overwhelmed by the excellency of service and the distinct flavours from the food.
I had the lamb shoulder and my wife had the market fish - terakihi. The fish was simply superb. The lamb was divine with all the trimmings.
The location is very nondescript and you'll probably miss it if you blink but once inside, the ambience and relaxed atmosphere is very alluring and makes you want to relax.
My wife and I are wanting to return to try out the other items on the menu. Everything from the entree to dessert plus the wine were simply fantastic.
This place is rocketing to the top if they maintain the same chefs and service staff.

I purchased a voucher on Groupon for The Wooden Board Kitchen and it seemed too good to be true. I have read reviews in the past, usually for ‘all-you-can-eat ribs’ places, with horror stories about these vouchers. But I took a chance with WBK and I’m so glad I did. My Nanna was visiting this weekend and the menu looked Nanna Appropriate (you know what I mean). The voucher included a shared entrée, two mains, two desserts and a glass of wine. We started with the Sea Creatures which was crumbed fish, mussels, prawns and calamari with a dipping sauce. The seafood was fresh and the batter crispy and not too greasy. For mains we chose the Slow braised pork & fennel w/ honey roasted kumara, savoy, granny smith & apple cider and the Roasted lamb shoulder w/ spiced pumpkin puree, seasonal greens, croquettes & mint sauce. The pork was lovely and tender and accompanied perfectly with the fennel and apple but the lamb was the stand out dish of the two, perfectly cooked lamb with delicious pumpkin puree and crunchy croquettes. We were both pretty full when dessert came, Warm chocolate lava w/ pouring cream and Spiced apple crumble w/ vanilla ice cream but we almost managed to finish them. The warm chocolate lava (aka chocolate fondant) was amazing but very rich. The Nanna thought it was too chocolately (is there such a thing?) but I thought it was perfect. The apple crumble was more to the Nanna’s liking. Our waitress for the evening was lovely and very helpful and the serving of the meals was well timed so we didn’t have to wait too long nor feel rushed. I so impressed with WBK that I purchased another voucher. I will definitely be back.

Nice and cosy atmosphere. This place reminds me of those home business restaurants in Europe. Staff are bubbly and kind. I had grilled market fish and angus skirt steak for main. Both were quite unique to other common grilled fish and skirt steak. Peppermint sauce with the steak was tastier than it sounded. Good portion and good price. Must check it out.

Would have been 5 stars but the service was very amateur. One waitress for the whole restaurant and she was not switched on to the basics of service. She was lovely however but seemed to be away with the fairies - we had to request to order drinks and place mains orders, no follow up drink requests taken, incorrect meals brought to us, no enquiries about whether our meal was satisfactory (this did not even happen when we paid our bill with another staff member), I saw other tables having to flag down the waitress to place orders too. If it wasn't for the food we would have been most unimpressed however all the meals were delicious and the desserts were amazing - the chocolate pudding is perfection!

Quite simply stunning food- I thought I'd gone to scallop heaven as they were absolutely deliciously perfect. Lamb shoulder was delicious and the lemon herb chicken moist and tasty. We will be back each time we are in Auckland and meantime I am telling all my Auckland friends to pay a visit. Prices are extremely good and wait service is attentive without being intrusive. I would support Cathy H's review. Dreaming of scallops.........

I am always a bit dubious about going to restaurants on a voucher deal. There are always rules and restrictions and you wonder what kind of service you will get as you are there on a cheap deal. We went to Wooden Board last night where upon we received the warmest welcome and were shown to the best table in the house. We were absolutely blown away with the food, the flavours and the freshness. we literally fought over the stunning scallop entree which was served with the most sensational sauce and had to order a second serving.
The mains were just as amazing - not haute cuisine, but full flavoured, rustic dishes that made you almost want to lick your plate. My terakihi was so good that I almost didn't want to share it with my partner who had the pork with the crunchiest crackling (and then I couldn't decide which was better).
We weren't going to take up on the dessert option that came with our voucher as we felt so replete, but I'm so pleased we did. They have a hot chocolate soufflé that I swear my mum makes the best. I reckon theirs would take a close second. It was divine.
The service was friendly and attentive. They didn't rush us out even though we were the only table left for the last half hour. And what's more, they called us to say that we had left our phone at the restaurant.
Goes to show, that deal vouchers can attract new customers. And if you look after them well, they will be back. So thanks Wooden Board Kitchen - we will definitely be visiting again.

Went to Wooden Board last night. The food was so awesome! We had the beef cheeks and scallops for entree which were both delicious. Such good flavours and complexity of flavours. We both had the lamb for mains - which was just amazing. Everything melted in the mouth and both plates were wiped clean! Then a shared sticky date pudding which was really divine.
The decor and styling is casual and slightly less resolved than the food - which was just so amazing. We didn't mind that at all because sometimes really good food means uptight front of house... which wasn't the case here. All good - we enjoyed the casual night a lot. The bill was excellent value and the waitress was beautiful.
We want to see this place do well cause we think someone is pretty talented. Thanks for the great night!

Sometime ago, I bought a voucher for this restaurant. A friend of mine said some good things about this place so I was excited when I arrived. Wooden Board Kitchen was well decorated and quiet which I liked. We ordered Fried chicken ($8) - I could've cooked better, Angus beef skirt ($18) - too chewy and tasteless, prawn pasta - which we had to send back as it was just purely bland. The 2nd one came just a touch spicy with Tabasco or some sort and I was too hungry to complain again. Such a shame to have foods like this at this sort of atmosphere.
The surrounding was wonderful but all dishes were tasteless.

I loved it! The great part is BYO, with quality food.
I ordered the market fish, the only thing I didn't like about it was the aioli which was not stated in the menu. The prices are very cheap and affordable.
My family ordered the burger special 2 for 1. They ended up ordering more because it was very tasty, but also because it was a quite small portion. All in all for the price it is very reasonable.
For dessert we ended up having the lava cake and apple crumble with vanilla icecream. This was the best part!!! The lava cake was absolutely divine, so was the apple crumble - like going to my grandma's house. :)
It is a really great value dining.

We went to Wooden Board last night for the third time. We were blown away by the flavours the first time we went, and we've been back two more times to try the other things on the menu. Everything has been awesome. Particularly good are the sweet cornballs, the scallops, and the mussels (in the entrée section), and the fish (terakihi), the slow braised pork and fennel and the tiger prawn spaghetti (in the mains section). Go there, order some of these things and you'll be blown away. Don't be fooled by the modest interior and lack of street presence. Step inside and you'll love the great service and amazing food.

His food packs great punch for the buck. Not often do I try out a restaurant. Like it so much and went back the next day, then 3rd time within a week. and again the week after!
Generous servings, delicious food...nothing more to be said...MUST GO TRY NOW!

Nice little place tucked away on Upper Queen Street. Deserves to be more popular to create a better atmosphere within the restaurant. The staff are absolutely fantastic. I haven't encountered many places with more friendly, smiley staff. The food has quality - the lamb and pork were cooked to perfection. However, there was a chicken with tomato dish that wasn't very good - I think they have since taken that off the menu. This goes to show y do look closely and what they provide and are always looking for improvement. Well done !

Great value, mains are all priced under $30. The food was excellent.
Sadly no atmosphere to speak of - went here on a quiet Monday night, and were the only ones there. Tasty fresh fish and scallops. The pork belly was to kill for.

I cam here about a few weeks ago,
The staff and decor was nice.
I ordered the potato burger which was alright. Although it was a bit dry and there could have been a bit more sauce inside.
I would come again to try other foods. This place should deserve more foot traffic but unfortunately people can easily miss this spot when they walk pass.

The WBK is a stunning find. The interior is comfortable and relaxing. The food is amazing. We have seven people in our party and everyone's meals were spot on. There is a natural no BS tone to this place that comes through in the atmosphere and the food. We all left saying we would definitely return.

Right, first some background, my wife and I booked into the Langham for our wedding anniversary and as a treat decided to eat at the Langham 'Eight' restaurant. However, on reflection of the $90 per head price tag I started looking around for alternatives and took a BIG chance on this place. Luckily it wasn't too far to walk and easy to find. We both really liked the simple decor and friendly staff but it was the food that absolutely stood out. I had the sea creatures and my wife had the Scallops for starters, both of which were fantastic, really fresh and cooked to perfection. Then I had the beef steak (skirt) and my wife had the lamb. My beef was nothing less than perfection on a plate, the chef had taken what is a cheap cut and turned it into what I thought was far better than fillet! My wife's lamb was also delicious with a great selection of veges cooked and seasoned beautifully. All in all, we both agreed that we had one of the best meals in a very long time and I don't say this lightly as we have eaten whilst staying in most of the European countries and Asia. My advice, get in while you can! Oh, and finally, a special mention to the chef, he has a great future ahead him I'm sure and it was a pleasure to eat 5 star food at an affordable price...........'Eight' restaurant will not be seeing my $90 while this place is around.

I inexplicably suffer meal-envy at restaurants. I have to restrain myself from peeking at the next table’s dishes to see if that’s what I should have ordered. Okay, I always peek. Ordering is a wrought decision, which is why restaurants such as Wooden Board Kitchen is a godsend. I still agonise over my decision, but being able to order a range of small plates spreads my risk of being stuck all evening with the lamb when I should have gotten the squid. This way, I get the lamb and the squid, oh, and the haloumi as well. I’m sure a glutton thought up this way of eating, and I thank her with all my heart.
Wooden Board Kitchen is located on Upper Queen Street, just off Karangahape Road, tucked into the side of a building. It is unassuming, so look out for the large timber sign and the fairy lights. The menu consists of starters, ‘stingy plates’ (which are starter sized, $7 - 9) and ‘generous plates’ (which are main sizes, $18 - 24). Several of these are served on (you guessed it) wooden boards.
We were a party of 14, sitting alongside another party of about 16 students, so it was really lively and I could barely hear myself speak. The staff took it all in stride though; the two wait staff and two chefs got the meals out in reasonable time I thought. Unfortunately, most of the small dishes came out tepid.
I was recommended the pulled braised beef ($8) and the pan-seared scallops ($9), and I rounded it with a vegetarian dish of honey roasted beetroot tart ($8). I was tempted to get a fourth, but the friendly waiter advised that 3 was plenty and I could always order another later. Good advice.
The pulled beef came with ‘Asian’ slaw in a shaped flaky flat bread. The slaw of carrot, red onion and savoy cabbage was tossed in a version of a nước chấm dressing. The beef was so tender, with a hint of sweetness. This was the pick of the dishes, absolutely delicious.
I was disappointed with the beetroot tart; the beetroot was cold and not caramelised, it needed to spend a lot more time in the oven and the puff pastry was dry and bland. The classic combination with caramelised onions, cream cheese and balsamic reduction was tasty.
The scallop, although also tepid, was done well. The was sharpness from the chilli in the tomato and avocado salsa went well with the sweet scallop and the crunch of the pangratatto (fried breadcrumbs).
The larger dishes looked great. We were recommended the braised pork shoulder ($20) which came with kumara croquettes, sautéed savoy cabbage and smashed granny smith and apple cider sauce. I tried some, and it was meltingly tender. The pan-fried snapper ($24) was the special of the day. The Angus cheese burger ($18) looked like a popular choice, and the tiger prawn spaghetti ($20) is dressed with chilli, garlic, fennel and lemon.
I would come back to Wooden Board Kitchen in a small group. The food is tasty, the presentation is nice and the staff are friendly and helpful. It is great value dining.

This is truly the hidden gem of Auckland. The food and service are excellent. Me and my wife where looking for a place to grab a quick bite before a late night movie on Friday. We looked on Menu Mania, for a affordable place with good reviews, and how impressed where we, when we chose Wooden Board. The 5 stars really are the standard that they set. The owner is a great host and the food is awesome

Went there for dinner while I was in Auckland for a holiday. Absolutely awesome food!!! Great price n fantastic service as well. Would totally recommend it to others :)
I went there during a non peak hour so there was plenty of seats. But it is quite a small place and may get packed. So bookings might be necessary!

Taking the price into consideration, our experience at The Wooden Board Kitchen was excellent. The staff were pleasant and accommodating and our tasty, well presented, unpretentious meals were reasonably priced.
We dined with our two children (5 & 8 years) on a bitterly cold Winter's night and had the restaurant to ourselves. Our mains of braised lamb with polenta were tasty and melt in the mouth tender. The size was fine for us but may not have been quite enough for those with particularly hearty appetites. The small plates (referred to on the menu as "stingy plates"!) were a good size for kids' meals. Our daughter said the chicken tenders were delicious; our son quite enjoyed the squid and was certainly won over by the Chocolate Lava dessert. I enjoyed my taste of it but I suspect you'd need to be a real chocolate lover to want the whole serving.
On arrival I did notice the smell referred to by Keith B but, taking everything into consideration, it would not be enough to reduce my rating.

Excellent little find! I dropped in on a business trip to Auckland and was pleasantly surprised by this gem of a restaurant!
I wasn't sure of what to order so I asked the waiter to order a starter and main course for me - he was very surprised and ordered his two favourite dishes - they were lovely.
The food was well presented and tasted beautiful, the service is also great. The interior of the restaurant is quite minimal but very nice, the chairs are exceptionally comfy!
Overall I recommend this place and will be back when I return to Auckland - well worth a visit.

Came here with my fiance. First impression was that the place smelt really strongly of the deep fried stuff, like it lacked ventilation in the kitchen. It was on the ground level of a multi level building. Sure enough our clothes had a really strong smell of oil after dinner.
Used a voucher and got the shared entree and 2 mains and wine. The assorted seafood entree we had was really tasty. Looked exactly like the picture on the website. My fiance had the lamb mains which was nice and the polenta was a little bit like mash (have had it a few times before with a firmer consistency). The steak I had was less exciting though, fairly regular flavours and slightly chewy. I asked for well done but in other restaurants well done doesn't necessarily mean chewy.
The wine we had was lovely and the service was excellent. The place is fairly bare but unique as it is. Enjoyed the night out except for the stench on our clothes!

Discovered the Wooden Board Kitchen by chance and was very impressed with the quality of food for the price, so highly recommended it to friends. Took some friends there at the weekend and was hoping after the big build up that it would not be a disappointment. The menu had changed since our first visit but it was fantastic - lived up to our praises and very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. You can bring your own wine, which is rare in the city. The decor is rustic and you might be wary about the location but don't be put off, the food is excellent and the staff are knowledgable about the food they are cooking. Go to this restaurant, it has not been open that long and needs your support to become established. If we didn't live so far away it would be our regular - just planning our next visit.

Great food at fair prices - I cant recommend this little gem highly enough. Take someone special - they wont be disappointed. This is one of those places that is on the way up - this time next year you wont be able to get a seat. Be in at the beginning and see why people are raving about the chef's talent.

Awesome night out ..all 8 at our table had no complaints about there meals and with only 1 chef on he did a great job ..they had 1 waitress who was very attentive and kept us up to date with meals cooking etc ...didnt mind the little wait as it gave us time to relax and chat if we wanted fast food we would have gone to mcds .. they ran out of steak but our second choice was pork and it just melted in my mouth ...we all agreed that we would return and eat there again :) dont believe the place has been open long and still has few things to do so will only improve the looks inside better (floor and vents ) keep up the great food and team work kitchen board we are all looking forward to eating there again soon 10/10

Amazing food at amazing prices. We went after reading the other reviews on this site and we will be new regular customers. Food is so tasty and a lot of thought has gone into the food, presentation and flavours. The food is simple but delicious. I also signed up to this site just to review this restaurant as I really want to see it do well.

My first impression of this restaurant was that it was nicely decorated, but when we were seated and I had a look around properly, it actually seemed like the interior design was a bit confused. In some ways the theme seemed to be rustic, with wooden tables and tiled floors etc; but then many of the decorations were Middle Eastern themed- and nothing on the menu reflected the Middle Eastern decor! So that was weird.
As for the food, we didn't have to wait too long, about half an hour which was acceptable. Our waiter was pleasant/polite and told us the specials, asked how our meal was going etc without being intrusive. My friends said all their meals were tasty, and they certainly looked appetizing, particularly the beef burger which came with perfectly cooked chips.
As for my meal, I had the daily soup (French onion) with ciabatta bread and seasoned vegetables. Soup was...average at best. I know restaurants don't make soup fresh from scratch every order but the soup felt like it had been either insufficiently (it wasn't even steaming) or had been sitting out too long. The seasoned vegetables...what a tiny portion. About 6 green beans and 3 baby carrot halves for $5- I would not recommend this purchase at all! To top it off, a "dressing" of what tasted like plain oil(an entire tablespoon of it just sitting in the bottom of the dish so the vegetables swim in it, how lovely) and -even worse- a garlic skin sitting on top?!Why does food like this leave the kitchen?
All in all, average to below average meal for me personally, and only the praise of my friends for their dishes saves this review from a poor rating. Would only dine here again if somebody else paid.

Spotted this place on Menumania when looking for a BYO in the city (there aren't many and most are Thai or Italian). Booked on the strength of all the positive reviews and can now add my own! Talk about great value - both their so-called 'stingy' and 'generous' plates are large and reasonably priced. All can be individual entrees and mains or as easily shared 'tapas' style. Our group tried a wide variety of the menu and everyone's verdict was the same - delicious and filling. The decor is pleasant with a mix of small tables, and long tables with benches hence the name Some of the food is also served on little wooden boards. The waitress was friendly and attentive despite it being quite busy. It was no problem to pay the bill separately too. The only suggestion I can make is to get some champagne flutes for BYO bubbly, because this wee gem is perfect for celebrations, whether couples, friends, family, small or large groups. Thanks for a great night Wooden Board Kitchen :-)

WOW, I was speechless... Had an AMAZING meal and was pleasantly surprised on Sunday!
This is a real little gem in the heart of Auckland CBD. Only open for 2.5 months and what outstanding food and service. There is no doubt in my mind that once the word spreads about this place its going to be very sort after.
If you are after well presented, flavorsome, balanced dishes...this is it! The atmosphere is also very laid back with a real minimalistic look, so don't judge a book by its cover! Dishes well priced and especially for the kind of food you receive! The scollops, portabello mushrooms and spicy tempura cailuflower entrees were all very nice. The Fish, lamb and chicken mains were also very tasty.
Do yourselves a favour and go get a slice of this heaven...you wont regret it!

This place is great! Ate here while on holiday mid Jan, the food is great (they make their own pasta!) we tried the steak, chicken and pasta and would recommend the chicken dish although they were all nice and huge portions. We also tried chicken, squid, fishcakes and Stuffed Portobello for starters, the chicken was great as were the homemade fishcakes but again, couldn't fault a thing, however - we were seated outside where a man (I think he lived above) was cleaning the path with a hose with NO respect for paying customers, the water then overflowed onto the tiles making them slippery and hazardous which is why ive only given 4 stars. The waitress did see him doing this and I thought she would have talked to him but she didn't.

I tend to write reviews when I am either very impressed or very disappointed and I was definitely very happy with my experience at this restaurant. We sat outside, which was lovely on hot summer's night and interesting watching all the passerbys! The service was friendly and very efficient, but best of all, the food was excellent. We had pan-seared scallops ($8) and chargrilled chicken skewers ($6) to start - both excellent and then both had the market fish ($22) for mains. The fish was snapper and we both received a generous serving that was super-fresh and cooked to perfection, crispy skinned with moist flaking flesh -absolutely divine and loved the parsnip puree and pickled fennel, cucumber and watercress salsa. Although we really didn't need it, we did have dessert each (Chocolate Brownie and Apple Crumble with Kapiti Icecream and both were also delicious). Another plus is that this restaurant is BYO! Can't wait to go back and sample more!

A real gem at very reasonable prices. With no starter over 410 nor main over $20 this was outstanding value Our fishcakes and scallop entrees were divine. Our main courses of lamb shoulder and snapper were although a little on the small side fabulous. Saying that however we had no room for desserts
Well done Wooden Board we hope your seasonal well cooked meals will be well supported. You certainly deserve it!

Considering all the five star reviews this place has had, I was quite disappointed. The service was average at best, with our meals coming out at different times. The waitress might have been new, given her service levels, but she was the only one on. The food was tasty with a few exceptions (like the onion rings which were deep fried onion skin), but portions were small, even for the relatively cheap prices. They have a bit of work to do in my opinion!

Feel like this is one of those " little gems" the service great and attentive but unobtrusive. The food was outstanding and the prices were excellent. Fantastic for those group occasions when people have varying means but also lovely for romantic evening for two which is what I enjoyed on my visit.

This is my second time here and as usual the food was great! Great food + Great service + Great company = Fantastic Night, I would highly recommend this place to everyone, the food is cheap but not the quality, will be coming back again with friends so they can enjoy good food at an affordable price.

We came by due to reading these other great reviews. Definitely not disappointed! Very much enjoyed the music, service and mostly the food. Only had room for the veg buckets, squid, mushrooms, scallops, cauliflower and chicken skewers, will come again due to not having a big enough belly!!

I was elated when Wooden Board moved in practically next door to me--finally, a nice place near K Rd and Queen. My only hopes were that a) it would be decent food, and b) it would stick around for a while.
I was a bit nervous the first time I suggested Wooden Board when with a work colleague, having never tried it out, but it worked out very well--the atmosphere, service, and food were divine! I've been back many times since, both alone and with friends or work colleagues I want to impress.
I pass Wooden Board on my way to and from work, and go on a run every night past it, and I've noticed that it is getting more and more popular. I'm happy that a local restaurant is getting the attention it deserves! It is a great option in the midst of all the lower-quality fast food places near K Rd. Finally--an affordable, higher-end option to take visitors, or for takeaway when I'm too tired to cook after work. The curries were getting old for both me and my friends!

We only had one night in Auckland so I wanted to make sure we went to the best possible place without breaking the bank. After reading the reviews I chose the Wooden board. Although its at the top end of Queen street, it was only a 50cent bus ride to get there then a pleasant stroll back down Queen street. The food was absolutely delicious - way nicer than restaurants i have been to that charge twice the price. Its not a flash part of Auckland but if you care more about food than a 5 star dining experience then I highly recommend the place.

Friends and I dined here twice during our stay in Auckland. Such an awesome little find that we will miss very much! Between us, we ordered the vegetable buckets, chicken skewers, squid, steak and lamb. All meals were fresh and delicious - absolutely no complaints! We were beyond impressed with the food, service, and prices. Highly recommended!

Excellent food. I came here with 3 friends and all four of us were really impressed with each of our meals. The variety of the menu was great and theres definately something on there to suit a wide range of people. The service was great and we didnt have to wait long for our food to come out. Everything was cooked to perfection and its definately value for money. Would return again and will do soon.

I can see I'm not the only one who only signed up to the site in order to rate these guys :) Came in with a group of student friends for a BYO the night before Coldplay - on a pretty tight budget as you can imagine! We were really really pleased with the quality of the meals and service for the price that we paid! Great atmosphere, convenient location, awesome food, staff, everything! (Stoked with the cheap as corkage too, by the way. I think it was just $3? Cheers!) Thank you very much for a lovely meal, as I promised one of the chefs, will be sure to tag you guys in the photos once they're up on Facebook.

Just like the guy below, I signed up to rate this place too.
It's a fantastic new restaurant that deserves to be known. Been there 3 times for dinner now and taking my dad for his birthday in a couple of weeks. Great food, ridiculously low prices, lovely staff. The chicken mushroom and mash is my favorite. Bottom line... try it!!

You know a place is good when you join up to a website just to rate it! Came here with my partner within the first week of it opening as it is right next to her apartment. What a stroke of luck as it was amazing and will be making it the local!
I could tell the owner/chef's have a lot of commitment into making dining experience unique. After talking with him at the end of the meal he was noticeably upset that the waitress forgot to read us his special for the evening as he had put a lot of effort into crafting it. Not to worry though as the plates we did order were fantastic. Ended up costing $35 for two people so very very affordable for the quality.
All up the food, service, and prices were 5-star. Also gave a nice complementary tempura vege snacks while deciding on what to order. Show this place some love its definitely worth it!

I had the veg pasta and the garlic bread. Great food. Great location and very friendly staff. And to top it all of, it was reasonably priced. As the terminator would say... I'll be back. Do hope you can serve alcohol next time I come around.

I just had lunch at this place and loved it. For a lousy $10 I got a huge tasty chicken, plenty of avocado, tomato and relish in turkish bread sandwich. The rest of the menu looks delish and prices are so low!!! will try work my way through the menu for the rest of this year (:
and the chef is also very helpful....amazing food, great value, will take workmates next time!
